Cool video - really nice hand launches with the Cloudbuster plane sweeping away against the forested hills backdrop  Smiley

Quick video of latest Cloudbuster......this is with about 400 turns when I tried it at 550 I almost lost it to a thermal. I shoot these with my Samsung phone and a hat clip. I experimented with this using 4k and then processed it to HD video.....not sure it is any better than my others.

I started our using a Sizzix craft cutter and it cuts balsa pretty good but didn't do notches very well. I bought a laser engraver:  EleksMaker® EleksLaser-A3 Pro 2500mW Laser Engraving Machine CNC Laser Printer from Banggood.  If you get it from China it is about $190.  It will cut balsa and 1/8" plywood.  I have all the parts for the Cloudbuster converted to a file that the laser can use so I can cut out the parts whenever I need it.

Hi pedwards - that is a great action video of your Cloudbuster landing in the end of the branch of that tree !!  Smiley in Reply #3, and the still pic of it perched up there - nice color scheme   Cool  by the way ...
I got one of my planes off of a branch way high up in the canopy of a tree almost the same way you did.   I clamped a metal vise grip on the end of a long unwound length of brown jute rope twine, and threw it (after a few tries), over the branch that the plane was sitting on, the vise grip came back to earth dragging the long rope twine over the branch, so I grabbed both ends of the twine and started pulling and jiggling and yanking the branch, and eventually down came the plane !   Grin By the way ... what is a craft cutter   Huh   machine ?  - that you used to cut all of the balsa parts with ?   Also, would you know what kind and brand of laser cutting machine (and appx how much they cost), would be good to use to cut your own balsa kit parts from a balsa sheet ?

I lost this one about a month ago.....rebuild V2.0. This one is an experiment in printing on tissue.  Came out pretty good. The video isn't the best but it got stuck on a roof after this flight......had to wait till the next day for it to come down....in a rain storm.  I limited the winds to about 500.

First pic is the one in the video the other one is my first attempt at tissue printing

Wind was about 5 mph but it wasn't steady.  I have a length of rope that I tie a plastic bottle with some water in it for weight then I throw it over the limb and I was able to shake it free.  I bought this clamp that holds my phone on my hat.  Once you adjust the angle as long as you follow the plane it stays in frame.  I have a Samsung S7 and it does pretty good videos.  I have it set to start with voice commands so all I have to say is Start Video and it starts.

pedwards2932

Would you post a photo of the clip, I may need to invest in one.

pedwards2932, what was the wind mph? Love the video. How did you get the Cloudbuster out of the trees?

How are you releasing the airplane and taking the videos? I need to try this since my brother no longer lives near by.

Flew my Cloudbuster again today.  Still working on my video technique.  First video was just trying to make sure I had the plane in the picture.  I had about 300 turns on it.  Second video I took it to the larger field and it had about 800 turns.  Third video still about 800 turns but the wind must have shifted because it headed over to the other field then behind the apartments and ended up in the tree in front....I edited out my comment at that point.  It seems to straighten out when the winds start to run out.

Thanks.  It was hard to tell from the video but it went over the power lines so it was pretty clear of the road.  The field on the other side of the road is an old golf course but the underbrush is really long so I don't like having to trek into it....I'm sure there are snakes, etc in there.

pedwards2932,

thanks for the videos they were the high light of my day. I was afraid of the road when your Cloudbuster was winding down. Nice job on the color scheme.
