Engine installed, electronics checked out. Main gear installed with live olio struts. Using Solartex covering, it's a little heavy but I like the texture. It looks like doped fabric. Fairing the engine was a challenge as it is actually bigger than the plans show.

LWM, Thanks for calling the museum about the drip pan, I didn't mean to trouble you. This pan is a really nice idea. In all my years, I have never seen an idea like this. Lifting and moving those big steel 3' x 3' pans that lay on the floor, is a real pain. I wonder if this place is the only place that does this, or if other people do this also. Which makes me wonder, I know there is such a thing called the "pre flight". But I wonder how many people started the airplane with the pan still on. I actually saw once, a tricycle gear airplane taxi up to the hanger, with the tow bar still attached to the nose wheel. And I've seen people try to leave, with the tail tie down still attached, or the chocks still in place. I wonder if there is a big red placard on the inst panel that says "DID YOU REMEMBER THE PAN?".

Huey - that is some
IMPRESSIVE LIST
of bipes you have flown   Smiley  - I am very jealous ...  Wink

Dave Q - I phoned the Historic Hangar with the question - you are right - the Stearman bipe does have a custom-made aluminum
oil drip pan
that they hang under the radial engine when it is on the ground, so it does not drip oil onto the floor or tarmac. They said all the radial engines drip oil.

Making some progress. Have the engine together, using a 985 instead of the J5. A little more power should get her off the ground quicker.
LW, well, along time ago a Smith Miniplane, Starduster II, Steraman PT17. Then a Myers OTW, Steens Skybolt, Waco UPF7, and a Pitts S2. Helped a friend finish a Hatz Clasic but didn't get a chance to fly it. I did all the electrical, exhaust and rigging. He test flew it and it flew hands off on the first flight. Then he sold it, was above his pay grade.

Is that a drip pan hanging under that engine? Never seen anything like that before.

Hi Huey - that will look
SUPERB
flying around with a brushless electric motor tucked into a detailed dummy engine.  Smiley    Huey, what make was the kit, and what is the wingspan ?   I just had a ride in a Stearman Bipe   Cheesy  on Saturday in the front seat of tandem open cockpits, from the resident pilot at our Historic Hangar - it all inspires me to build my HERR "Stearman PT-17   28" kit I have on the shelf!   We got bounced around quite a bit up there - makes you really squeeze your stomach muscles when you go down suddenly - but I got 28 pics on the digital camera that all worked out!  Smiley
Huey - out of curiousity, if you don't mind, what is your list of biplanes that you have piloted ?

Acquired the 1/12 Williams Bros engine that the plans called for. Now comes the fun part, fitting it to the fuselage. I also have the make an exhaust manifold.

I'm a lover of bi-planes. Having flown several there's a need to build some. Picked this up from E-bay. Have to build it as a 4 Chanel system. Planning on using a 17 gram brushless.
