I got to the Basin a bit late, about 9:20, but it was a beautiful day, high 70s, perfectly dead air, and only a hint of drift that came up around 11:00.  We could have flown until noon except the Indian Kite festival started at 11:00.

Apparently, the word did not get out as well as we thought it would since there were not enough trimmed models there to hold a WW2 mass launch.  This is a lesson in making sure your models are properly trimmed before coming to a contest,  Only two people, myself and Don Smith brought cat gliders so we couldn't hold that part of the contest.  The only event that could be official was FAC Scale with a field of Fairchild 24s and Piper Cubs.  Fairchild 24s rule!

This event was postponed from December when it was seriously blown out by the same winds that were driving the wild fires which may be why so few modelers showed up.  The reschedule was not well publicized.  We will make sure that the next time this squadron holds a contest it is properly publicized.

FAC chapter 69, The Grassy Knoll Squadron, will hold a contest on January 14, 2018 at
the Sepulveda Basin.  The contest was scheduled for December but had to be postponed until
January.  The date is good assuming no fires, floods, earthquakes, or riots.

There are three events in this contest:

           I. FAC scale. This is fully judged by the FAC rules which are less stringent
and complex than AMA scale rules. You can enter and compete without
documentation, but you will be at a disadvantage if others have documentation.

II. Pearl Harbor mass launch. This event is for scale models of planes that were in the
Hawaiian Islands during the December 7, 1941 attack.
              .
           III. Scale catapult glider.

Please note, the Grassy Knoll is a somewhat small field and to keep the models on the field the
15% of model weight motor weight rule will be in effect for FAC scale and Pearl Harbor events.
Models of about 18 inch wing span do well on this field.

The flying will start at 9:00 AM to stay ahead of the wind that comes up later.
