attached the wing outer panels today..also installed the wing strut support pylons and got them shaped and sanded.

laid some putty / filler onto the wing joints and should be able to get those cleaned up later today.

Still a very long way to go. I need to make the propeller, finish cleaning up the wing struts, continue cleaning up the cowling, get the pilot installed and the canopy masked and installed...then I can start thinking about the paint process.

lots of overall work to do yet before any color can go on

Great progress and another bookmarked build for future inspiration. Looking forward to the color going on.

getting closer to the real challenge (as challenging as this project has already been) - the paint scheme...

here it is with the canopy trimmed to fit and the cowling pinned on temporarily -

the engine is done and buttoned up in the cowl, I just need to clean up the joint between plastic and balsa.
the spats are sanded and ready and I have the wing strut footings in place on the fuselage.

actually, New Builder - I don't use the tissue anymore. I had built some display models of the Stearman and Pitts Special (and some others) where the tissue was the correct solution to replicate the linen covered parts of those models - but the stuff just doesn't hold up over time. The paper gets old and dries out, cracks and tears...uh-uh. I put too much time and money into these birds to have that.

Now - I have a Stearman on deck and am wondering if I will add some plastic half-round extrusions to the fuse, wings and tail to replicate the fabric wrapper in those areas but at this point its just a thought. I've not done that yet and I don't know how it will look.

Here is the basic Wasp Jr - as yet no detailing has been done - I just wanted to check the fit inside the cowling..
