Good point and for Sea Trials we will allow them but WESTFAC 6 in 2019 might be a different story. For Sea Trials we need as many flyers as possible in the Navy events so we can be plenty loose this October.

Tom,

What about aircraft that flew from carriers without having a tailhook?  C-130, U-2, OV-10, Navion and others all flew on  and/or off carriers, some operationally and some for test programs.  Might hook a few more participants with guidelines for aircraft like these.

Cheers,

Mike

This October 26-28 the WESTFAC organization is having an off-year event called Sea Trials 2018 in Buckeye AZ and it promises to be a real blast. As a head's up, WESTFAC 6 in 2019 is going to have the theme of Carrier Air featuring aircraft of any service, any navy, and any era. The only requirement is that it must have a tailhook. Not only that but we are going to have carrier launches from the USS WESTFAC masquerading as a steel gray 10' Costco folding table. We will have deck launch events and hand launch events complete with Jetcats using a deck launcher too. Since there are so many events in 2019 we are doing what the USN does before it sends it's carriers to the fleet and that is to give them a shakedown cruise called Sea Trials to exercise all the systems before they join the fleet. So that is what we are doing this October---working the bugs out of new and exciting events.

There will be no judged events, just all mass launches and total-of-three-flights events so bring out your battered war horses. There will be a goodly number of regular FAC events but NAVY will be the theme. We encourage modelers to build plug-in landing gear to take advantage of both deck and hand launch Navy events. No banquet, simple awards on the field the last day (Sunday), and the first day is a trimming day over the most lush alfalfa field you have ever seen.

Go to the WESTFAC website ( http://www.westernfac.com/ ) for a flyer with all the details. If you would like to be put on the WESTFAC mailing list, please send your email to:    [email protected]
