Hi Everyone!

I have to thank Mark Tennant, Dale Barker and the other staff at Guillow for judging the appearance portion of the Challenge and returning the results so quickly.  The final standings are:

!st   Don Butman                110.1 points   90.1 Appearance (2)  20 Flying

2nd Mitchell Schoonejans   108.7 points   91.1 Appearance (1)  17 Flying

3rd  Jim Bassham                82.4 points   82.4 Appearance (3)

4th  Randy Black                 77.5 points   77.5  Appearance (4)

5th  rpfaff80                         76.9 points   76.9  Appearance (5)

Good job to everyone who finished one!  I know that there are a lot of you that have them under construction and we still want to see them.  When you finish one, please, post photos to the 2013 Challenge Entry album with the title "Late Finish".

In case anyone was wondering why I didn't build one, I already had two of them, built before the Challenge started, and I had too many other things going.  (See http://hjlmodels.com to see why...shameless self promotion.)

Yes, I will find the time to run next year's "G" Challenge.  It's shaping up to be the by the numbers kits 600 and 700 series (leaving out the Edge) and the "Flyboy".  These are inexpensive, don't take a lot of time, and are almost guaranteed to fly.  The 2014 Challenge will run from the time I post the rules until October 31, 2014.

Pictures to follow.

Keep 'Em Flying!

Howard

Thanks Kittyfritters,

We encourage anyone who is interested to join up and participate in the Guillows "G" Challenge.  Please post a few pictures or a detailed build here as you participate.

Looks to be a great cookup.

Thanks again for posting the rules and let's see all the 540 Edges as they come together.

Tom

This group is an annual Guillows cook-up fun challenge.  It is open to anyone, world wide and has been going since 2004.  The basic idea of the challenge is that all participants build the same Guillow's kit or a model from the same, designated Guillow's series, from the time the rules are posted, usually sometime in November, until October 31 of the following year.  The 2012 Guillows "G" challenge is for any 900 series Guillows kit, using rubber power.  The model must be built with the kit wood. The models are judged on appearance and flying time.  (Yes, I know there are only 15 days left this year, but it's a 900 series kit!)  An added category is the Orv Olm Speed Dash.  (Best time for 75 feet in a straight line.)

See http://groups.yahoo.com/group/guillows_g_challenge/ for the rules.

This group is where the participants in the "G" Challenge post the contest pictures of their models, progress pictures, building tips and the flight time results.  Mark Tennant and several others on the staff at Guillow will judge the appearance points and there is a prize, supplied by Guillow for the overall winner in each category.    The Challenge deadline is October 31 2012.

Last year the Challenge was for 300 series kits.  I have attached a few pictures of some past year's winners and one of this year's entries (Skyraider by Don Butman).  Sometimes spectacular flight times can beat out great appearance scores for the overall prize which is why there are first prizes in overall and appearance.

It looks like next year's challenge is shaping up to be 400 series kits (24", WWII Fighters)
