G'day staubkorb;
Good to see you getting out & flying your planes mate! Been looking at your other vids on your other posts as well-I still havent managed to try any of mine out yet(exept over the bed & in the back yard!). Its spring here now-always a windy time of year here-so hopefully in the near future when the wind dies down i can see if any of them will actualy fly! Maybe i will have my own vids to show...(only if they are not to embarassing ha ha !).
Thats a fine looking little plane mate-i hope you can sort her out!

Along with  the flight of the SENATOR yesterday, a "fright" was attempted with the Hemiptere with two-hundred turns.  The humidity was already sagging the tissue, even tho I had just gotten to the field, so the test is not really decisive.

The plane "flew" in a nose high, crabbing attitude, straight as an arrow for about 100 feet.  NO stall, no wing drop.  The soggy tissue had allowed a bit of the excessive wash-out to return - moreso in the left panel - so that may have accounted for the weird pattern.

but It flys - sort of...

I got a bit of the fright on vid, but I'll have to study it first.

It was easier than that, at least for the wing letters.  restickable glue-stick wiped on the wing plan then scraps of tissue bapped on.  A freshly honed scalpel made short (fairly) work of the rest.  The reg is only on the top surface.

I used INKSCAPE (still trying to figure this program out), which creates vector files, so scaling to the larger size of my "next" one will be a breeze.

I really like this bird Pete,

I understand about how to hold for launch...dealing with this delima with the F-82 Twin Mustang.  Thanks for sharing this great resurrection. 

I assume that you print out the font on bond paper and lay it over the tissue and cut out the letters and numbers as a sandwich.  It looks great!!!

Glad I decided to return to this build also, Tom.  It is, by far, not one of my better builds but interesting nontheless - enough so that I'm planning to do a larger version (26", Collins) in the near future.

I got in a short flight today with 170 turns and tailplane incidence reduced from -8° to -5.5°.  Much better, enough to say that it actualy flew.  Still stalling a bit, but towards the end of the flight, which might be indicative of still too much incidence (downwthrust holding the nose down under "power").  I haven't been able to make a decent glide test - there is no place for me to get a decent grip, so I have to trim "backwards - but the "landing" was almost good (no damage).

Right after launch, the plane seemed to want to go right (2° right thrust), and then settled into a gentle left turn/glide.

I also scaled and printed a set of decals for the tail and fuselage markings.  Need to shoot some Krylon on them and then get them on.

Font used for the fuz registration was Eurostil at 48dpi/bold.  It's not the exact font, but close and I believe that the registration on the original was hand painted with hand-cut stencils.

Got some more.

Windshield is on and the front end completed plus a little more detailing.  I went with the "heavy" prop, as the greater part of the rubber is behind the CG, and seems to have paid off.

I was able to get in a few test "frights" late the other evening between light rain showers that showed either over-elevation or a rearward CG.  Sagging tissue and a popped landing gear leg stopped the work (for a short bit).  The humidity allowed the excessive washout that I had removed to creep back in.

Repaired the gear leg, took out a tiny bit of incidence and started cutting tissue for the wing registration.  The photo shows the port wing - came out better than hoped for.  The fuselage lettering is 2/3rds the size of the wing one and might pose a problem...

A tiny bit of color really sets a airplane out!  It reminded me of our LS sailplanes "changed" when they came out of the paint-shop - and they only had/have a nose flash, tip color and the registration/contest idents.  The little bit I have now on the Hemi makes it "jump".  Tissue over tissue.  I'm still not sure how I'll do the registration and the fin flashes.

Two props for the puppy.  The "Fillon" one at 1.14 grams Shocked (ironwood balsa) and one I made up using one of the lightweight IKARA props as a pattern and shortened a bit - weight @ 0.37 grams.  The total weight surprises me at 9.7 grams with the heavy prop, as it is essentially finished.

The legs are are an experiment with various types of construction.  I should have done a "dry" run to decide which to use, so the finished result would look homogenous.

The wire forms the "outside" shape and is overlaid with thin Depron®, and filed to shape - I'll not be using this again on a small model.

The inner fork leg is (in this case) 0.6mm balsa, cut cross-grain into a narrow strip, one end wetted and wrapped around a 3mm shank to a 90° angle, then left to dry.  The resulting part then needs to be hardened (thin CA).  The "short" end is formed to the gear leg (round file),glued, and the "long" end cut to length, slotted or drilled to allow the axel to pass thru.  Everything is glued, the inner fork acting as the wheel retainer and the axel stub can be clipped flush or used to anchor the "brake-line".  The inner fork could very well be formed with the grain running lengthwise.
