This is Lil (Wido) Satan #3 for me. My first one was built in Boston, MA just before I joined the army. I managed to sneak it on post when I returned from my first leave.  It died a fiery death after the paper shredded from too many flights, not enough repairs. I'm surprised the MPs didn't get notified about a small plane on fire, spinning in circles on the baseball diamond. "Go home, you crazy GI!" Amazing whaT fuel and a lighter can do to one just before launch...the smoke trail was awesome. Losing the plane after the line burned through was nerve wracking to say the least! At least the MPs missed that part!
#2 actually held up long enough to return home after my enlistment. It died a year or two later. Both were Box-stock LHS new.
I'm enjoying getting back into the hobby more than my boys are. I hope they start seeing this as something we can enjoy together.

My first successfully flown C/L was a Lil' Satan. Kept it a long time too. I've threatened to build another one a half dozen times. Pretty sure I'd just have to look at it though. I'd fall down drunk after 4 rounds! Smiley

Jim, I could not find the Sterling P-38 plan, but found several others on outerzone here:

Lastly, I love scratch building. I'd love to jump into a P-38 build.
Anyone around here have patterns of Sterling's 24" P-38 Lightning kit # S-14?

Thanks in advance!

Hi,
I'm new around here. Flew C/L as a kid a long time ago. I've been trying to pull my two boys away from their gadgets. They told me if I showed them what I did as a kid, then they'd try it.

Well, the gauntlet has been thrown down!
With that, I pulled out my 40 yo Cox .049's and found a quick profile slab-wing job.

Since OP posted HK's ME109 profile jobs, I thought it appropriate to post our completed "HK-109's.

We finished the silver one last fall. My 10 yo got to fly it a couple of times before my 13 yo killed it. This spring we built #2. Again, the little guy managed to NOT prang it.

So, by way of introduction, here is our current fleet. Our Lil Satan clone (search Internet for Wido Satan for plans) will join shortly.

@ Pete: I also have purchased from the COX saviors in Canada and have been pleased with the service.

@ Brenda: I purchased several bags of the black and gray  6'3 and 6'4 props last month so I have a good supply.

So far after cleaning the engines and parts in antifreeze I now have 5 complete engines, only 2 have needle valves that fit the back plate.

I'll 2nd Bernie over at Cox. They got all kinds of stuff. All brand new still in the box. The thing that they are missing are .049 wood and hard plastic props. No one makes them anymore it seems.

I needed to replace the plastic front housing/carb mount part on both of my T.D. .049/.051 engines that had cracked due to age - one of the engines has only been run a few times, the other has quite a bit of time on it.

Ordered parts from the COX saviors in Canada (https://coxengines.ca/) and had the stuff within 5 (FIVE) days - and that was over a weekend!  They have standard and HC heads plus the "button" type (Nelson?) in stock for a reasonable price (MUCH cheaper than screwbay), but didn't order any this time around.  Some of the engine prices may still knock your socks off, tho Wink.

VERY pleasantly surprised by the SUPER service and communication!  The acknowleged the order within minutes, with updates as to when the order was packed and then sent.

Check them out for parts and some engines, you WON'T be disappointed!

For balsa I use SIG for the most part. Good stuff. To make thin bits extra strong I soak them in dope (like rotors on giro).

Brenda nice to hear from you, I sent you PM some time back and thought that you were either sick or in an accident.

As for the Me109 I have been searching for some good balsa to build it, but I cannot find the type I need. I
guess it is off the National Balsa for just a few pieces. Once I start the 109 build I will post my progress.

I have the Black Hawk Models version of that 109 and it's rather zippy. Handles real smooth. Not as solid flight as a old Guillows 109 C/L but still nice.
