Nice looking nacelles...where did the cowlings come from? This will be an interesting model.
Tom

It is complete. The nacelles were modifications to the kit supplied parts..namely the engine formers F2, and F3 were simply modified by gluing balsa circles 1/16" thick to the faces of those two formers. The cowlings were purchased from Guillow and are the ones supplied with the Catalina kit. I think it cost me 12$ for the plastic part sheets from their Catalina kit + shipping.

From the sheets I used the cowls and the prop hubs..as well as the halves of one of the 1000# bombs which I sliced up to make the oil cooler scoops and exhaust shrouds.

I used the cowlings as a template to cut the circles that would form the new nacelles and then notched them to match the existing formers...they were the exact right size for the conversion.

I did have to shorten the cowlings by about 1/2" or so but that was easy enough to do.

So speaking of flying boats..

A while back I built one of these with very little modification (aside from the infill method vs. tissue covering) for my grand daughter who wanted a pink airplane to hang in her room.

The build was interesting and the kit was excellent, so I decided to get another one and do a few things to it, modification-wise...like radial engines instead of the Ranger inline motors they shipped with
