Hi Tom, That's an interesting plan. I like the way the wing fits into that slot. Let us know how she glides. How thick is the wood in that massive wing? Did you form it first or just "wing it"?  Grin

Douglas F4D-1 Skyray from Jetex plans = Catajet

Hi All,

For a break from the big Dash 8-300 build, I've started a new Catajet, the Douglas F4D-1 Skyray.

I'm using the plan from the Jetex site that was designed for their Jetex 50 motor.  I've never built or used a Jetex motor or model.  But I thought that it should work as a catapult model.  I enlarged it to 10.5 inch wingspan model.  I didn't document this build showing the parts etc. but here's the model as I start the painting.  I'm going to be using rattle cans instead of firing up the airbrush.  Lazy.....I know Wink Grin

The Jetex plans templettes...

Now the mockup and start of paint...this is the first time I've ever used the "S" style airfoil on an model. Will keep you posted on flight trimming...

The building instructions mention that in trimming it has a natural right circle turn and works to counter the jetex 50 motor on the side of the fuselage.  I found this to be true so far.  I'll try to trim for a more level and straight glide.

More later....
Tom
