Scott,
That plan in in our "Catapult Launched Gliders" Plan section on our sister site FreeFlightArchive:  Click Here for F4D plan

I don't remember the paint for certain, but I believe the white and grey are Krylon flat white and flat grey. The orange is Testor's DayGlo Orange in the small rattle can.

If you build one, be sure to share the build with us here.  Lots of pics please.

Tom:

What brand of spray paint did you use?  It looks like it covered really well.

Are the plans posted somewhere?

Thanks,
Scott

I'd have to say No because they are old and got thrown out with my old computer.  When I do a prop jet I'll do a build here.

Jim,

Any pics of those prop jets?  How about sharing them with us. Start a new thread under current builds called "Prop Jets" I'm sure many would love to see them.

Meow!  My cat Ginger gave me a Sig TIGER just before she died (xmas 1990) and I built it in her memory  Every time it flew I could hear her MEOW!

This Ford (F4D ) comes from Bill Dean"s "Big Book of Balsa Planes".  I have tried building it without too much success.  Also tried Built up Fords They look cool but are tough to trim.  May take anouther shot sometime later.  My most successful prop jets were my own designs, Mig 21 and F8 Crusader

Here's the latest on the Skyray....

Got a little impatient and you'll see the results on the orange wingtips...didn't wait overnight to paint the orange over the white base coat.  Crazed the orange a bit.  I could of sanded it off but its a catajet and hasn't made any flights yet except glides in the house across the room to the couch.

I also have to melt down some lead to make the 11gram weight for the nose of the Skyray.  Saw how this was done on some thread...so thought I give it a try.  Making a disc to add to the nose recess visible on the left side of the nose.

I see. Thanks. That's a lot of wing area. Should float pretty good.

Hi Tom, That's an interesting plan. I like the way the wing fits into that slot. Let us know how she glides. How thick is the wood in that massive wing? Did you form it first or just "wing it"?  Grin

Eric,
the wing is 1/16 inch balsa...semi hard balsa that is flexible with the grain.  Make the wing by glueing the wing in sections of 3 inch wide balsa sheets cut to just outside the wing's span in each section.  The easiest way to glue them is to lay the sections flat on the building board with the edges tight together. Tape over the seam and then flip over and open the seam like a hinge....glue with white glue or duco and close the seam and lay it flat on the board glued seam up.  weight the sheets to keep them flat and tight wipe off excess glue let dry overnight (patience needed on this one) Mine took four seams with the enlarged span of the model.

Lots of words for a small proceedure.  Didn't think to take pics of this process. sorry. Embarrassed Embarrassed Grin

Would work the same for a flat wing of the same planform.

Tom
