With you on the hooks thing.  I got backed up and was in a hurry.  What kind of hooks are best?  Dont know why I didnt go under instead of tying to the hinge thing.  I will do that before I fly.
Looking back, I see many places where I could have done better.  Sorry about that.
The rib thing was me trying a different way.  Wont do that again.. It made covering HARDER !!
Have you checked your thread on HP ??  I left a pm over there.

I'll take all the pointers I can get.
Didn't even think about sealing the inside.

Eric,

J-D looks good! Just some pointers, if I may? The rib at the dihedral break is usually canted to bi-sect the angle of the two panels. More of an appearance thing. How you have it won't affect flight.

Normal practice is to use a hook or hooks on top of stab(about 25-30% position) to secure bands at front, passing below/around fuslage This secures the stab front to fuselage and pulls the surface into DT position, when needed. The DT line holds down the rear, until its sacrifficial band is burned thru at the snuffer.

Motor is eight ten srands of 1/8 rubber. Suggest also sloshing some sealer ( I use thinned dope) inside the balsa fuslage, fully coating interior, then draning excess (stand on nose to dry completely). This will protect the innards from rubber lube.

Let me know where your model balances ( with rubber installed)and i'll add a wing mount pylon to the plan.

I need to get one of these done! Cool

Even without trying, the pics hide many flaws.  Lesson learned and its not so bad that it wont fly.  Its just not the way I like it.   Glides well enough for the conditions under which I have tested it.  I'm sure it will be fine.
Snuffer tube also doubles as the rear peg.

Thyme,

Looking good...still must learn the DT thing...it's a mystery still to me.

Love the looks of the bird and the mylar doesn't look bad to me.  I'll be waiting to hear about the first flight.

Changed my mind.  Don't like the rubberbands across the wing.  Thinking of a way to not have them on the tail.  Maybe the next one...
It's ready.  2 loops 1/8 , 1 x prop to peg.  Was able to modify the motor  loader from another plane.  Not enough rubber, but enough to trim with.  Wish the weather would break around.  So does everybody else.  Grin  Working with the mylar was interesting, but need to work out a few details before I try it again.   Any small wrinkle shows up like a beacon in the darkness.
The wing does not really set back that far,  I moved it for glide testing after the pics were taken,  just in case..... Wink  Too windy for any real testing.

Learned something else.  The "Rust-o-leum" brand  hammered look paint is cool to look at but to get enough on the plane to get the effect, you have to use more than I prefer.  Bit on the heavy side at 49 grams, but it glides well and some folks say 50 is not too heavy.
My next chance, I am going to try just plain wood stain and maybe a thin layer of wax.  I used Krylon clear for the tissue, also a factor on the weight.   My only chance of flight is EARLY in the morning, and its still wet out there.   Depends on the wind.  Still air brings heavy dew.

Great idea Thyme...I'd go with the disguised balsa to protect from the rubberbands.

Finally.  Got it.  Soon as the glue and water dries, I will photo.  Will do two coats of 50/50 dope on the tissue.   That way I can fly in the morning when the wind is down, sometimes.
Now for the rear peg, paint, and the rudder.
Not so sure about the Velcro thing.  To late now, but I wish I had put a sheet of 1/32 over the center two ribs.   Something for the rubber bands to lay on.  Might do it any way and disguise it with tissue.  Wink

third evening of patching and I haven't even flown it yet.  Will try one more time and if it does not work,   I will ditch the pink.
Seems like for the last several days I have destroyed more than I have built.

"Eager to see this one fly"

Me too!!!!  In fact, if I don't get a new plane in the air soon, I might just go insane !!!!!

Found some of the pics I had taken and re-took a couple.   Don't know where the others went.  Undecided   If those polyhedral joints are not 90 degrees to each other, you will get washin-washout that you cannot warp into shape.   I used a square to set the inners and then butt up against them and pin for the outers.   Looking at the pics I realized I left out two gussets.  No problem.

Tyme...you're "ambi-project-turist"...

The wing looks great.  I like the method of matching the outer panels to the inner panel.  Will the velcro be strong enough?

I'm eager to see this one and especially in the air.

Not sure what happened to the pics with covering.  I lack the center section of the main wing.  Other than that, shes ready for the hooks and stuff.  Brace yourself,  its pink.   Well partly.  I bought an assortment pack and its the only color nobody else uses.  I tryied the metelized mylar, and I dont know if I like it.  Havent used the heat gun yet, but it sure does not like curves.  Fine on the flat spots.  Will spray paint the fuse.
Got my fuse in the mail.
Will post more pics soon.

I should explain about the pic of the main wing frame.   I pinned flat edges to the board and built to them.  Then matched the inners and built the outer frames.  That way I dont get any unwanted twist at the joint.  For the pic, I just layed the inner back onto the frame.  Thats the stab in the back.
The "v" shaped pieces are my wing joiners.  Made from 1/32 ply.  Fat ones go inside.  Not sure what to do about the place where the main wing is held on.  The plans call for hooks and rubber bands.  I might try velcro.  Not sure.

Let me know when that 80 inch Playboy is ready to distribute.  My plate runneth over right now, but I will slowly get thru it.

Your very welcome on the pics thing.  Because of how slow I move, I will post on other sites after I get one finished.
They will get there.  Currently, work and weather is not making things easy.  Cry
