A 414 error has nothing to do with the photo but that the length of the URI is too long (Request-URI too long).  Plug in "error 414" into Google Search to get hundreds of explanations of what it is and how to resolve.

If you are trying to perform the upload from your phone, that could be the issue, or that your I'net Service Provider isn't worth the money you're paying it (if on a real computer).

This LINK is one of those with a general explanation.

X-------------------------------X

The two photos below graphically show the difference between the same pic sized 1260x945 and 600x450 (pixels).  The larger one has a FILE size of 142.6KB and the small one only 45.8KB.  clicking on the large one will re-open the pic (blued frame) at full size - larger than the"thumbnail" in the thread.  The 600x450 size "blues" to the same size as the thumbnail - NO improvement for the visually impaired.

You decide which one you'd prefer to view...

Try opening your photos in 'Paint' and use the "stretch/skew" tool. I find it's easier to just forget resizing by pixel count and reduce your pics to 400K or less. I try to resize as close to 400k as I can. Never a problem that way.

Garry,
can you get into your Photobucket account?  If you at least know your log-in "handle" or the email address that you used to register, you should be able to get to the bucket.

Once you DO find your bucket page, add it to your browser's "Favorite" list in the MEDIA folder for future use.

If you have access to Photoshop or a similar they allow sizing pictures.  Usually they will allow you to set pixel height and width.  As Thyme said 400X600 pixels is the best size.  If you would like to post more than one picture you'll notice that to the left of the smilies is a dark blue "Attachments" with a plus sign in a box.  Click on that box and it will allow up to 6 pictures to be uploaded from your computer per each post.

If you don't have access to a photo program that resizes the photo here's a link to a free online photo resizer: Photo Resizer Click Here

No problem.
First I need to ask, is the camera you are using a digital camera?  I assume you have the pictures on your computer. ?

Also, do you have an online place to store your pictures?
That's the easiest way to do it. It is totally free and as far as I know, secure. This is the one most folks use, altho there are many to choose from. When you upload your pics to a place like this, it will ask how big you want them. You choose 600x800 or whatever is close and presto! your in.

http://register.photobucket.com/

Another advantage is if you ever want to share ALL your work with someone, you just post a link to that particular album.  I have crashed many hard drives for various reasons and everything I had on photo bucket is still there. The rest is lost.

Let me know, we are standing by.  Cool Cool

Sorry, I don't know how to reduce the size. I took the photo with a Canon Power Shot SX200, 12 megapixel. I see other pics here that are under 400 KB and have no idea how they were done. Please help.

Sorry, but we cant post anything that big.
Perhaps you could reduce it's size?  Or maybe make it into a PDF?
I use photobucket.

The reason we cant do it is because of spam and such. It's a safeguard.
Do you know how to reduce the size? We would love to see your pics!

I would like to post a pic of my rubber-powered flying wing plans as enlarged at Staples, but the file is more than 2000KB. What can I do?
