Perhaps a metal straight edge and something to hold the razor blade in the correct place.  Clamp the whole thing to the table.
Thats how I make my angle cuts.  Sometimes I attach a fence to my scroll saw if I need several of the same size.  Its difficult to get straight cuts with a hand stripper.  I have to anchor SOMETHING to the table and use both hands.  I have a Master Airscrew stripper.  What type do you have?

Buying them is not so bad. 50 sticks for 10 bucks is cheap.

With a stripper, I still get uneven withs.  I block sand the edge of the sheet a tad between cuttings. That helps.  Gives me three flat sides. I put the uneven side facing the inside of the plane.    No one will notice after its covered.  If making L.E. or T.E. or a spar, I often cut over sized and sand to suit with a block sander.

Hope this helps.  Let us know how it works out and how you wind up cutting your strips.  Inquiring minds want to know. Cool

CL:  Yes, I have a stripper but my success with it is limited.  Need to find a way to make the works steadier.  Time for more experimenting!

Articles available on-line dealing with the properties of balsa (http://www.go-cl.se/balsa-about.htm#anchor446684 )  state that strength of the wood is directly related to the degree of hardness and relative weight.  Soft wood is weaker than harder, but it is so much lighter.  However, even HARD 1/16 square is pretty brittle and breaks easily. CARE in assembly is directly related in how small and or light the  builder of the model is attempting to make it. Delicate structures don't respond well to hamhanded construction and handling afterwards. It's part and parcel to this end of the aeromodeling spectrum.

Dead on. This is why I rarely build anything Embryo size and smaller or indoor stuff. I'm just too fumbly fingered.

Sure it's a wrinkly mess, but it flies.

As one's skills grow (like getting used to working with soft sticks) one can select the appropriate weight/strength/grain wood for each appropriate intended use. So the light sticks you think now may be bad, may infact be quite good.

You are very welcome.  Proud to be of any service I can.

Your memory goes back farther than mine.   I sometimes think no matter how long I fly, I am always gonna be the new kid. Grin Grin Cool

I'm gonna try to send an order this week or next.  Thinking about getting a prop or two.  If he is as picky with his hand made props as he is about his wood, it should be a real winner.

Do you have a balsa stripper?

Thanks for the response and the info.  I think I remember Alan when he was first selling the strips.

Dumas has an excellent customer relations record.  I'm fairly certain they will work with you on that issue.  Just give them a call.

Its common for kit wood to not be the best in the world, regardless of manufacturer.  The issue has alot to do with price but mostly, its because of the variance in balsa itself.  Even on the same sheet, you can often find 2 or 3 distinct grades of wood.   During production, this manifests itself in that somebody sometimes gets a kit with lousy wood.
Contacting the kit maker usually fixes it.

Some folks , like me, buy wood in bulk and pick thru it.  Sometimes I shop locally and try to sift thru what they have for the good stuff.
The truth is, finding good wood is half the battle. Grin

Here is an excellent source of very good sticks.  Highly recommended and worth every dime.

Some folks buy sheets and cut their own strips.  Let us know if that would interest you and we will post links to that topic.

Good luck with your plane and please keep us posted.  We are here to help.

Questioning     I'm attempting to build the Dumas "Tiger Moth".  I find the 1/16" pieces break extremely easily (I believe you could blow on one and break it).  Is this typical of Dumas or do I just have a bad batch?
