Does indeed show promise!!  250 turns is just a tickle on that much rubber.

Still love all that glass!!!!

Well, after having done nothing on this for 3 months (March/April/May), I decided today to start covering and assembling. I got it far enough along to make me want to test fly it.  There are many warps in this that were not there originally, but I think you will agree - there is some hope!

This was with 2 loops of 1/8 each side barely longer than nose-to-peg and 250 turns each motor.

Check out the video.

George, this time around carve yourself a L-R pair of Bill Henn props. They'll turn the Tiger into a Pussycat.

I spent several hours yesterday digging into the rebuild of the tail booms for my FW-189.  They are not yet complete, but they are well on the way.  Rather than the fragile 1/16th square construction of the originals, I built these with 3/32nd square.

Here is the link for the gallery of the build:  http://www.teamwetworks.com/claymore/photos/?level=album&id=39

Grin Grin Grin  Got so excited about the no-cals and peanuts, I forgot to look at the jumbos.

That's a good tip on your site about using smaller wood to save weight.

Yes, I drew up the plans.  They have been relatively popular on my site.

Thanks all for the info and pics.
Now THATS a plane a pilot could see out of !!!  Would love to fly something like that tru a thunderstorm.

George, do you have plans for that plane or is the frame work free hand?  That was a tedious build, for sure.

I have video of that jewel flying.  It really was a flying green house.

Here's a shot from during the original build.  It wasn't super difficult - after all, it is all straight lines.

Wikipedia... Focke Wolf Fw 189 Uhu ("Eagle Owl")
Called the "Flying Eye" of the German army, the Fw 189 was used extensively on the Eastern Front with great success. Its Russian nickname was "Rama" (Frame), referring to its distinctive tailboom shape. Despite its slow speed and fragile looks, the Fw 189's maneuverability made it a difficult target for attacking Russian fighters. When attacked, the Fw 189 was often able to out-turn attacking fighters by simply flying in a tight circle into which enemy fighters could not follow.

Love the scheme on the picture below...

This is my one-time pride-and-joy - my Jumbo (36" wingspan) Focke-Wulf 189.

The first photo was taken at Geneseo in maybe 1999.

The second is how it had to be launched at full power - a straight-up climb with a roll-out to a flat, long-duration flight.  (Don't worry - the wires were well out of the way.)

The third photo is how it sits today.  In the fall of 1999 (I think it was 99), in Muncie, my launch was flatter than required.  the two motors at full power with props going in the same direction rolled the plane over and it hit the ground with disturbing results.

I plan on rebuilding this.  The engine nacelles are fine, as is the wing center section, the fuselage nacelle and the wing tips.  Only the booms and the tail surfaces need rebuilding.  I am afraid that I will need to re-cover the entire model, also.

I had three victories with this model in the one season I flew it - two in WWII Combat and one in Jumbo.
