Try bench winding a big motor and see how it works for you.
For small sport planes, they are ok.  Those big, expensive units are great, if you have the cash.

THanks for the links.  That yellow winder is the one I have.

I would love to have a Gizmo, but they are a bit much.

Here's the best article I could find on the subject.

I use a little black one with no name on it.  Sadly, I cant remember where I got it. I do recall it was maybe 12 or 20 bucks.  It does not take much of a winder for 2 loops of 1/8, so you don't need to spend a ton. The main killer is the gear ratio.
Mine is a 6 to 1 and it will wind to breaking 3 loops of 1/8 pretty fast.

Well, maybe...I have one of those cheap yellow ones, but I think I need something more beefy for 2 loops of 1/8?

Thought about saving and getting one of those Gizmo Geezer winders, but awfully pricey.

There are some hand drills out there, but I'm not sure what would be good.  I don't really want to pay 40 bucks to convert a hand drill, but if the cheaper ones will work that's great.

Any advice appreciated.
