Seems to be cleared up.  Apparently, we had a severe thunderstorm with a nearby lightning strike during the night that addled the "brains" a bit.  The machine didn't want to boot and my graphic driver was the fault. Running the "repair mode" in Windumb with a "warm" start got the thing running, but I had to do a full reboot to completely clear the gremlins.  Full AV scan (deep scan) in "Safe Mode" and again in regular mode PLUS an online scan (Trend Micro) all were clean.

I'll be taking the  pig to the fixit man soon as my doubloons are in the bank - just to make sure nothing really got fried.

I'll have to scan it, but I developed an issue with the new confuser (looks somewhat serious atm) so it might take a few days.

Pete...do you have a digital copy also.  Any possibility of posting it with the article?

I have a circular scale that was published in one of the model mags quite some time ago (probably Model Builder) by Gus Morfis.  It is derived from a circular slide-rule with all unnecessary scales eliminated.  Simple to use, and I have the "original" Xerox copy of the scale and article.

CMVH...thanks a lot for input.  Always seem to be more ways to skin a cat!  I appreciate the reminder of using math.  Too often I avoid math.  Funny how I thought at the time, "I'll never use this!"  I should have paid more attention in math class! Embarrassed Roll Eyes Cheesy Wink

A regular calculator works just fine for me. Measure the wingspan, let's say it's 10.25" on your plan. You want the airplane to be 24" wingspan. Divide 24 by 10.25 and you get 2.3414  Set the copy machine to 234% and you're done.

Some copiers will only enlarge up to 200%. In that case you can copy and do the math again or use this simple method. Enlarge once at half the original enlargement figure (117% for this example.) Then enlarge that 200%

Many copiers will only enlarge or reduce in whole percentage points so it won't get your size perfect. In our example 10.25" x 1.17 x 2 = 23.985" which is probably close enough for most of us.

Thanks OneCut....

I looked them up on line and they range around $4-$5 bucks at several places.  I also found this free Proportional Calculator online: Click Here

Tom,
For finding % enlargement I use a Circular Porportional Scale.  They can be found in some office supply or print shops.  Mine came from a locally owned print shop.  Local Office Depot didn't know what I was talking about when I inquired there.  They come in 3 sizes if I remember.

Hi ya'll,

Ever wondered just what percentage to set on the copier to get the enlargment or reduction you wanted on a copy machine but wasn't sure just how much.

Found this simple calculator ont he Airplanes and Rockets site that Kirt has made available on his site:  http://www.airplanesandrockets.com/resources/plans-scale-calculator.htm

Check it out and the next time you go to Fedex/Kinko's/Staples to enlarge a plan you'll already have the % worked out so you won't have to experiment with several copies...

Enjoy,
Tom
