Well Done Jim,

Glad to hear she's performing well so far.  Glad your prop is working also.

You're going to be the first completed it looks like.

in anwer to the Prop question.  yes I laminated 1/32 sheet over a 1/16 sheet (soft) and yes it is holding nicely.  I used White Glue for the laminations and soaked the 1/16 sheet to get the curve.

I have tested the prop in the basement and It seems to work.  More on that this Saturday

Here is the Finished (almost)model  I need decals and canopy only.

The plane balances at the start of the canopy which is not too shabby.  maybe a bit of up elevator or a wee bit o weight in the nose for final correction.  we shall see. Cheesy Grin

Looks pretty good.  Are your blades laminated?  Are they retaining the curve from the plastic prop?

Here's a link to the Czech Master Modeller, Lubomir Koutny here on the Prop Board of this site:

http://www.stickandtissue.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1309980819

You also might want to check out the Laribee "MIL" Minimum Induced Loss props article on the same board here on SnT.

I usually use a 2 liter soda bottle filled with water to keep it firm and then laminate the blades at a 15 degree angle to the left of vertical for standard US tractor props that pull in clockwise motion when viewed from the cockpit.

Here's a link to the Bostonian B-51B on this site that shows the 2 liter soda bottle used in forming the prop blades for a 4 bladed prop....  reply #17

If using a counter rotating prop the angle needs to be move to the right side of vertical, and the prop will rotate counter clockwise.

Tom  Thanks for the Technique  May try it.

here are two pics showing how I did a three bladed Prop  Cool  Should be a good pitch formed over a plastic prop.

Cannot get much power out of these things but they look cool.

We'll see if it works.

I did some googling of the drybrush technique...nothing that I was thinking of.  Mostly just artistic shading and highlighting of models or paintings.

Here's my Natter (Catapult Launched Glider) on this site that shows light grey mottling on the fuselage and wings using the drybrush technique.     http://www.stickandtissue.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1279644649

I take a piece of paper to use as a blotter and using inexpensive acrylic craft paint I mix the color I desire for the mottling I want.  I then use a stiff brissle brush and dab it into the paint and then blot on the paper so that just a small amount of paint is left on the brush.  Then dab the brush on the fuselage or wing where you want the mottling.  Keep dabbing in a circular motion with less and less paint transferring as you work out from the center of the circle.  Remember a little goes a long way with this process.  In this instance as the old saying goes, "Less is more!"

Practice on scrap paper or cardboard to perfect your technique and then move on to the aircraft.  Hope this is helpful.  I may do a tutorial on this later.

Here's a couple of pics of the Reichenberg CLG's

Jim,

Have you ever tried the dry brush technique for the mottled spots before?  This is a very simple technique and can do a very nice job without the need for an airbrush.

I'll see what I can find for you in the way of a resource for "how to" on the dry brush technique.

Grin  here is completed fuselage more or less sans a few details.

I will be selecting a colour scheme shortly.

JIM Grin

Ps The Winner Is Galland's BOB 109. As I have black gray and blue and yellow tissue

I will not be doning the mottled scheme because I don't hav the equipment or skill to do decent detail work.

now I've got the three shape formers at the nose LE and TE of the wing.  These three formers plus the tail post will allow me to shape the fuselage box to which I will add top and bottom cross pieces, formers and stringers.  The next pic will show the completed shell of the fuselage before adding details and filling in to balance the planre

i'm going to use the box method to build the fuselage and will make the box slightly trapezoidal in shape as per the real one.  After freeing the two sides I placed them on top of one another and found a few mistakes which I am now fixing. Roll Eyes

oh well, its amazing how you can make a part and have it not line up with he drawing afterwards even thought you were careful in aligning and pinning it up. a 1/32 here a 1/16 there it all adds up.

OK....

Bf-109E of Adolf Galland ....

Nice looking wing and you are sooooo far ahead of me.  I've got to get busy and clear a space to build.  Lots to do.

Keep up the great work.

Here's a link to some paintings of his birds: http://www.aviationartstore.com/For%20Sale%20Galland%20Paintings.htm

Check out those prices, very nice work....wish I could paint like that...I'm in the wrong business, hobby of modeling. LOL

Oh, the weather outside is frightful,
Building is so delightful
with glue and balsa on the go
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.

And the winner IS

TA DA ! Cool

The Blown Up Dime -Scale Comet ME 109. Wing span 20 inches (50 cm)

The wing is underway.  I've put ribs at the expanded plan positions and added half ribs in between.  I shall brace the half ribs to the trailing edge and cross brace with two stringers (top) to lock everything in.  The wing tips are sanded foam.

3:12 AM?  Nope its 11:40 am AST  What time zone is the base? Hawaii?
