I figured I should add some info to my posts about the Red, Baron but I thought the same old stuff about one of the more famous aviators might be a bit boring. Then I came across some info about  an aussie conection to the great man on the Australian War Memorial site. So......because I am too lazy to try & type out heaps of info , here is a link to the A.W.M. site.

G'day all;
I didn't get any time to build this weekend - just too busy - but I did find time to make a box to keep the parts of my Albatros (or any future builds) in so I dont accidentally smash them. I would be REALLY annoyed if I did wreck the fuselage or a wing or something this far into the build! New golden rule - if I'm not working on a piece, it stays in the box!
(P.S. thanks for the positive comments guys-its good to have people to share my hobby with even if they are literally half a world away!)

She is looking lovely.  You'll love the mockup.  With the bones mocked up you almost don't want to cover it all up. 

Scalloping on the fuselage formers is great.  You'll have a nice looking fuselage when she is covered.  Wings look terrific.  Well Done!

That's tidy looking work.  I'm really impressed with the wings especially - those scalloped trailing edges....  really looking good.  The fuselage formers will be fine scalloped.  I tried it on my Guillows Supercub and it really does avoid the "starving dog" look you can get if you don't do it.  Only the stringers show through.

How are you finding it compared to the Auster?  Don't know about you, but I found it quite hard going (and I still haven't finished).  I'm interested to see if it is down to the extra work of scratch building, the Auster in particular, both, or just me and my inexperience[smiley=rolleyes.gif]

Don't forget to post some pics of the mock-up, but I'm really looking forward to seeing it covered.  Presumably, as it's von Richthofen's plane, it had a fairly distinctive colour scheme?  I'm guessing largely red?

Nice jig!!! Those last few stringers wont affect the shape anyway, they run along the keel and by the time you get to that point, the shape is pretty much locked in.

Yep, if you want lite weight balsa, gotta mail order. Hollar if ya' need a link or two. For me, contest grade is for just that, contests. I only compete with myself. Nothing against contests, it's just that there are not any near me.
