Gotta build one of those (Born Loser) one of these days. I read a lot about them, and most all of it good. I've about figured out that if a model just keeps on being built, it's probably one you need to build yourself.

Enviable covering job on everyone you've posted here.

Pete,

Love your planes!  Great looking squadron you have there.  The Born Loser reminds me I need to replace mine that I gave away before moving to Texas to the neighbor girl.

Mine was in the same squadron as yours for the cookup!!!

"Born Loser" embryo.  Fantastic flyer that still gets flown regularly even tho the colors are quite faded.

Estrella Negra (Black Star), a design from South America (Uruguay).  I modified the airfoil - had one very similar to that of the Guillow's "LANCER" - thinning it down and re-located the spars.  Also widened the front end for better rubber clearance and built up the tail surfaces (all sheet per plan).  A pretty good flyer at 24.5" wingspan.

Frog "HERON".  Also slightly modded with built-up tail surfaces.  Needed no additional nose weight and is one of my best flying "low-wingers".

Senator?    Everyone should have one in their fleet of models for reliable performance at any level that's chosen, whether sport or competition. Outstanding design.

Do build a SENATOR.  Flying on a small field is not that bad or difficult (depending on what is considered "small").  I use a GOOD weather service (windfinder.com and accuweather) with the settings set to show the wind speed in meters per second - that way, you can get a darn good indication of how far you'll have to walk in a given time.   I've found the services to be quite accurate, even at five day forecasts, averaging ~90%.  I try to limit my FF flying to days when the wind is less than 3 meters/second (preferably < 2ms).

My "active" flying field is only 157 meters long x 200 meters wide, with the over-fly areas on the short length being actively cultivated fields extending about 400 meters to the North and 500 to the South.  Going East, I have about 1500 meters of agri fields.  So far the SENATOR has stayed within the main field limits - not so for the Cloud Tramp and a number (read: ALL) of my catagliders.  The C-T ended up one one flight over 2.5 Kilometers away to the West (that's the direction I try to avoid at all costs, but doesn't always work).  I also have the rc guys to contend with...

Couple more:

Phantom Flash (Comet) and Gourdou-Lessurre (Lee's Hobbies - peanut)

Nice Pete...thanks for sharing them!

I have a Senator in my near future builds.  Been looking at it for 2 years now.  About time I built one.
I only have small fields to fly in so will have to be very careful with the winds on the motor!

Then, of course, my BEST flying FF model so far,  the SENATOR

My "hangar" actually got its name from my Mom when I was about 7 ('bout a year and a half after I started with this crazy hobby Roll Eyes).  Every time she came into my room while I was "butchering" balsa, she would remind me to "be sure to clean up afterward.  This place looks like the inside of my dustbin (her word for trash can).  I also had a small site by the same name (now defunct) and a model building service.

These won't be in any chronological order

First planes are the Hangar Rat, Cloud Tramp and the Spitfire Mk. IX (Earl Stahl) with the Weber STAGGERWING dime-scale.
