Wow, as it is only about 150 miles from me I am going to have to make a day trip down there is coming fall and see it, and go to the  Queen Anne's Revenge for dinner a great restaurant at Daniels Island near there. I have been meaning to go there but the display of planes makes it a must for me now.

Any landing you walk away from is a good one!

During my days as a Navy gunner in Vietnam, the Essex class carrier was the work horse of the fleet.  The Skyraider was having its last missions during my second tour.  The AD is still my favorite ground attack aircraft.

It was one of the test capsule, fully instrumented but the original Apollo 8 was somewhere else!

Tom, I am jealous. You took a lot of photos and were able to touch many great airplanes some which I have not seen for many years. Is that the real Apollo in the last photo?

Well we're back from the east coast!  Nice trip and some great times with my Brother and Mother!  My brother is a great guy and had us touring many spots to see this beautiful city in the historic south.  Saw Fort Sumpter  from several places on the shore.  Amazing they could shell the fort from land back then.  One of the highlights was the tour of Patriot's Point, USS Yorktown CVS10.  Named for the lost aircraft carrier of Midway fame CVS5.  She was involved in the sinking of the Yamato Battleship of the Japanese Navy.  Learned something new regarding the A4D Skyraider.  Had no idea she had been used in training to deliver the nuke during the Korean Conflict.  Neat plack with this display showed this info and Presiden Eisenhower's ultimatum to the No. Koreans...who signed two weeks later of this promise!

USS Yorktown was also used to recover the Apollo 8 space capsule.  Had one on display that you could get into and view video from actual mission.  Very cramped quarters for three men.

Also had the Medal of Honor museum on the hanger deck.  On the flight deck was a group of more modern aircraft.  next post.

Here's some pictures of the museum.
