The ones we used to buy were all balsa and had either red or blue printing on plane and packaging. It seems like they were around .55 cents each. I dont think I ever got one to live longer than a few hours if I was lucky. Those wings were just so fragile...lol

Kind of like the old 5 and dime stores where I would pick up Guillow and Sleek Streak kits to go and destroy  Shocked.

Nice to here that these will once again be available for the youth to experience.

Guillow had the DC series of kits which had built up, tissue covered wings and balsa sheet, profile fuselages with a slot down the middle for the rubber motor.
Models with a sheet balsa fuselage with a slot down the center for the rubber motor are properly called "lo-cals".

So many people were using old DC series plans, available on the internet, that the people at Guillow were inspired to do a partial revival, and brought out the 4500 series models.  The available kits are the Bf-109, Hellcat, Warhawk, V-tail Bonanza, Stunt Flier nspired by the Edge 540, and the "Rock Star Jet" which looks suspiciously like a Pilatus PC-12.  They are built like the old DC series except they provide a self-stick film to cover the wings instead of tissue.  It works and these models will fly amazingly well.  You can find them at craft stores, hobby shops and some drug stores as well as on line from Guillow.  http://www.guillow.com/4500-minimodels.aspx

You can still find the non-scale, ROG type stick models, (Skystreak, etc) and the gliders hanging on the racks in plastic bags at some of the same places.  If you are going to give them to a group of kids, please, replace the infamous blue rubber band with some decent rubber.  You'll be amazed at the performance difference and it will be much more satisfying for the kids.

I remember as a kid we used to buy these planes in a plastic bag at the store. If I.remember right there was a Fokker and Camel,Spitfire and P40 maybe. Also there was gliders with a metal clip on the nose. I know Guillows has some on the front page and foamies also, I did see something in a Michaels that was priced at 7.00 a pack but wasnt what I remembered. Did these become discontinued? I wanted to get some for my boys Cub Scout.group but the stuff I find isnt exactly nice to the eyes. Kinda miss spinning those props.
