For the record...my model of what I consider the most unjustly maligned aircraft to participate as part of the RFC/RAF inventory during the First World War...the AIRCO DH-5.† Build was inspired by the exploits of Captain Arthur M. Coningham of No. 32 Squadron, who in the span of 21 days (July 1917) shot down 9 enemy aircraft (most of which were the superior Albatros DV)...and on 3 separate occasions scored multiple "kills."† All of this was accomplished while flying the AIRCO DH-5, a much abused and maligned "inferior" aircraft.† Someone forgot to inform Captain Coningham that he was flying a "dud."† The good Captain went on to become Air Marshal Sir Arthur Maori Coningham, KCB, KBE, DSO, MC, DFC, AFC of WW2 fame.

Model is a "peanutized" version of Mike Midkiff's DH-5 as appeared in Flying Models Magazine, circa 1998...and weighs in at 20.3g...a chunk...but she's pretty...and I love her.† Smiley

"Climb Mount Nitaka!Ē   From Comet Model Airplane and Supply Co. 1943, originally marketed as Kit E3, the Mitsubishi Zero.   Considering the date of the modelís design, plan is relatively accurate in its outline and proportions. Only the aft end of the fuselage and rudder required a bit of tweaking to render it more to scale. Itís all the more remarkable because no doubt the planís designer was working from photographs made available through the media. Kit was contemporary with the Mitsubishi A6M2 Model 21.

Iíve finished my model to represent an aircraft flown off IJN Aircraft Carrier Akagi (AI-158) on the morning of December 7 (8 th), 1941 as part of ďOperation ZĒ attack on Pearl Harbor. Pilot was PO1C Masao Taniguchi who ultimately became a 14-victory ace and a WW2 survivor.

It's been a while since my last posting here...but not been inactive, for certain.  Here's a third of my current project, i.e., Comet Model's Battle of Britain Trio...the venerable Hawker Hurricane.  This example is of an aircraft that operated with No. 43 Squadron...dime scale, from Comet's 1941 plan.

A quick build...whittling down my mountain of hoarded kits.† This is an old Peck-Polymers kit that I think is no longer for retail...a no-cal 15.25"ws Citabria.† Majority of construction consists of sheet 1/32" balsa.† Actually...it was a "day project."† The day included doing a lot of other things.... Well done! You've really captured the character and look of the aircraft! Very inspiring!

One more for the barn...this time it's a "bird of a different feather" from the Second World War, the Horten Ho-IX V2...often referred to as the Ho or Go 229.† Wingspan is 18"...intended for display/glider/and/or powered flight...set up for propeller and rubber motor.† Simple build...just a wing...until one encounters those pseudo Jumo 004 engines...that's an exercise in tissue work...but not difficult.† The end result is a reasonable facsimile of a rare and very unique aircraft.
