Hey, 35 to 40,000. That is way cool. Appreciate all the support through the build.  I need to start the A-26.

Base complete.  Just figured out I need to add 3 gas inlet caps (paper).  Tonight.

When you dash for the end, the workbench suffers LOL.  Cleaned it up last night.

Hey there,
Wow.
Small world.
The PBY with Squadron Markings XXY is from No. 6 (Flying Boat) Squadron RNZAF at Halavo Bay on Florida Island, Solomon Islands WW2.  My uncle was with RNZAF Ventura's of No. 1 Squadon RNZAF on a neighbouring Island land planes base.  A notable kiwi with the maintenance crews of No 6 SQN was Sir Edmund Hillary - later after climbing Mt Everest 1953.  (As a stand alone PBY base No 6 had 500 men in total including security).

Thanks Mike,

I laugh when I look in the original box. With all the replacement pieces I have made as well as new ones fabricated (all plastic pieces) I essentially have the original kit in there.  It would not take too much effort to make the original plane as envisioned by Guillow haha.

Need to work on some ship models so I might become a lurker for awhile but I think the Comet A-26 is up next.

Wow - I'm sure this build has far exceeded the original intent of the kit manufacturer and is looking spectacular, also a very cute assistant. Looking forward to your post(s) regarding the details. Any plans for what's next?
Mike

This is the best way to describe the amount of time taken (the wood always waits) - LOL.

Looks like I am calling this one done!  (truth be told the base still needs 30 mins of work).

Wanted to get some initial shots of the beast up.  Later in the week I also want to expound a little on how I accomplished some of the final tasks (e.g.  plastic sprue to antenna filters, antenna terminators that are easily re-tensioned (or removed for transport, etc).

It has been way too long but I absolutely credit this site for the motivation and expertise to keep me going.

Mark...after a small search online, I feel your frustration... it seems there are as many variations of antenna routing as there were variants of type with the PBY's...
I've found a few pictures that I'm including to see if they will be a bit helpful.  Looks like there were short antenna staffs at the rear of the cockpit.

Thanks, I have looked at that photo myself.  They apparently did this many different ways based on a number of things.  When I do find a PBY that is following the manner shown in the plans I copied, you never see the starboard connection point.

My guess is just forward of the radio operator's window (clearance and ability to fiddle with in flight).  SO close and yet so far LOL.

This picture posted by Gary in the archived pics of the Catalina seems to show the wire going to some sort of short mast over the cabin. (more easily found if you look at it blown up to 2 or 3x posted size).

Okay, final push to finish this up (pics very soon) and I have one question for this esteemed audience:

The antenna line leading to the fuselage originates on the tail, goes to a small mast on the forward edge of the wing, slightly off center (see top red line below).  From here it goes down to the fuselage (green line) where it goes into the fuselage (bottom red line).  I am having difficulty figuring out where this bottom connection point is.  Most pics found online are of the port side or are updated models that don't have this at all.

Anyone able to ID where this connects?  Thanks in advance.
