American Modeler  -  July 1965

In this July 1965 issue of American Modeler is the last model aviation item that I have been able to find by Harold Stevenson.  It is sport biplane U-Control model capable of mild aerobatics and is named 'Artist's Model'.  It has been five years since his last cover illustration.  At this time Harold has established a private art school in his home.
Quote:
" In 1965, Mr. Stevenson married a fellow artist named Alma Gallanos. During the seventies, Mr. and Mrs. Stevenson instituted their "New Renaissance Atelier", from which many students have become highly successful illustrators, portraitists and fine art painters. Harold Ransom Stevenson continued to teach until his death in 1985. One of his students and protégé was Attila Hejja.  Attila later became the director of the Stevenson Academy of Fine Arts.  In addition, Attila Hejja was an official artist for NASA and the USAF.  Attila Hejja died in 2007. "

A plan for Harold's Artist's Model is at Outerzone at:

While working with these images of Stevenson's work, I began to notice some patterns and similiarities in the material.  A few things that stand out in his work to me are:  his use of bold colors, simplicity of composition, attention to detail, and repeating elements in different and creative ways.

To the point, while sizing this last cover, I noticed one of the lads in the center of the circle and it seemed as if I had seen him before.  So I selected a couple of subjects and arrived with the composite posted below.  To my simple mind, the young guy in the first poster in this thread and the combat participant  have more than a little resemblance.

American Modeler  -  May 1960

This May 1960 cover of American Modeler is the last model aviation coverr done by Harold, that I have been able to find so far.  Once again he illustrates action in the UC combat circle.  It is quite different from the one at message #29 at:
http://www.stickandtissue.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1468046845/36
The scene on this May cover is more complex and drawn from a different point of view.

Harold continues to paint a few more covers for Air Progress  and American Modeler magazines.  This cover shows a HP 0/400 crew preparing for a flight.

Flying Models  -  September 1957

This is the last cover for Flying Models by Harold that we could find.  Nor are we able to find any more articles or plans  in FM by him after this date.  It shows a contestant on his way to the Nationals by hitchhiking.  Quite a different way than illustrated on the cover in message #9 at:

Another contest scene by Harold depicting a UC carrier event.  For a second time he merges two images into the same painting.  This time a 'ghosr' aircraft carrier becomes part of the cloud background of the contest scene.

In this cover, Howard returns to illustrating a mishap at a  UC speed contest.  This is similar to a cover theme in December 1951.  See image at bottom of page at:
