Thanks Bob, still work to do but I am close, I might need to down size the models a little bit and KISS, maybe more towards semi-scale simplified. More to come.  Wink

WOW! Smiley all I can think of is the engineering you've put in this heli. Nice job.

Maybe rubber powered helicopters are not meant to be this big, at least geared ones anyway. I went for another flight test, put 500 winds in her and the transmission slipped, under lower torque, no problem, under higher torque the gearing slips, no damage to the gearing so it is just slipping, the miter gear box held up just fine.
I will have to look into gearing that have deeper teeth to prevent slippage. Back to the drawing board.  Tongue I will post a video of this as soon as I can.

Looks really encouraging, Ray! Smiley
You might want to add some kind of a tail skid to protect the tail rotor...

Hi Tom,

This was a very brief lift off but oh man was it neat, a hop not a flight yet but more winds tomorrow and she will be in flight then. My helicopters always land with power still in them so no auto-rotation needed.  Wink

Fantastic Ray Smiley

I assume that once the rubber motor runs down she just auto rotates to a landing?  Never seen a real rubber powered Free Flight helicopter flight!

We have lift off, during another power test, double loop of 3/16" rubber 1 and a 1/4 peg to hook and only 300 hundred winds and she lifted off the counter and I caught it, needs more balancing and there's some clicking noise coming from the pinion gear or spur gear, not sure which, will do another more daring test tomorrow I will down load this video as soon as I can but it fly's!  Cheesy

Here's the ridged rotor hub, no lead lag hinges and no feathering pin, the fly bar is there just for looks and is not functional. I will do another low power test to see what happens next.

Ray,
You might want to find some "Dental Rubber Bands"  They're the kind used for braces and they keep the tension well and are pretty durable.  Usually can be found in the Drug Store or the Drugstore section of Walmart and other chain stores.

PB you were right those loom bands deteriorate very rapidly, I had both tension cords just fall apart and break while the model was just sitting there, these will not do, I will have to find a suitable replacement for these, we can not have these falling apart during operation.  Wink

She is ready to fly, well test anyway, I did not put the glass on yet but we are ready to give her a try, we will see what happens in the next day or two.
