A larger diameter tube to fit over the barrel flared open with a center punch. Easy peezy!

Nice looking machine gun.  How did you flair the barrel end.  Be safe in the hills and as my father used to say, "Take your time going, but hurry back!"

One of the tandem Lewis guns is fabricated. Now to remember the build sequence for the second. It has to wait till next week. Going to the hills tomorrow.

All Scarff ring components are installed, a weathering patina applied, this chapter of the build comes to a close. Like the radial engine a model within a model! Tomorrow we address the fabrication of tandem Lewis guns.

The gun ring's has a technical name, that being the Scarff Ring. The redo process has rectified my initial design faults and should make the eventual mounting of a tandem set of Lewis Guns technically and aesthetically pleasing. I have added a gunners seat. The stool like seat was not for comfort. The gunner, in a half standing position, used their legs to transverse the ring clockwise and counterclockwise. I repositioned the hinges permitting the gun mount ratchet brackets to appear more authentic. The gunner was provided a bit of comfort with the leather upholstery.  With "baby steps" the Scarff Ring fabrication comes together.

Gunnery pit progress. Gumby is happy with his Lewis gun mount.

After further review the quality control officer, Pokey, is not happy with this rendition. Tear it apart and redo tomorrow. It happens when you are scratching a gunnery pit for the first time.

Good eye, yes they are. I bought a box full of RC odds and ends at a garage sale. Very useful.

Today's progress entailed modifying the rear flight pit into a Lewis gunnery pit. We must now fabricate a suitable gun mount and a new Lewis gun.

John O - we will miss you as well but will all be here when you and your team return in the fall. Have a great summer.  Embarrassed
