Skye,
There is a build thread of the Baboon on the regroups website that will be very helpful in constructing the flying primate. The tapered cylinders are not true to the real engine but I like the look. Since only one Baboon was constructed, details of the plane are non existant. At the most there are four or five photographs of this aero plane. There is going to be quite a bit of fantasy in this build.

John,
Beautiful work on the cylinders!  Very nice, crisp, and clean. No instructions?  You have plans?  42" wingspan will result in a masterpiece of art.  I can see why you have an attraction to air cooled engines.  Great job!

And now there are seven pseudo cylinders.
Aligned on a small dowel, the cylinder sandwiches are wood glued together.

JohnO,
Glad to see the beginning of the Bat24 Baboon...Those cylinders look great.  What's the span on the Baboon going to be?

The construction of the Baboon was initiated this day. We wish to take advantage of the multitude of laser cut balsa and plywood disks that are supplied in this short kit. This is a bare bones kit without instructions. Baboon fabrication should reawaken that part of my noodle programmed for problem solving, specifically the area dedicated to model fabrication. I was drawn to this particular kit because of the seven cylinder radial engine. The kit engine does not mimic the real Baboon power plant. I find the design of the kit engine aesthetically pleasing and as such, we will not construct an engine that attempts to duplicate the "real thing!"  After finally understanding the order of disk stacking, Gumby and I dry assembled two cylinders this day. Two down, five more to go!

Skye,
Great.  Glad to see you are a member here. Build begins after the, unexpected new furnace, and expected new house breaker panel box is installed. Gumby and Pokey pationately await the initiation of construction.

That makes sense. The script and photo were gone. When I posted this day, the photo appeared but the script was lost in the land of lost electrons Roll Eyes

JohnO,
Sorry about that we had some kind of glitch with the site and lost a major file that completely shut down the site and lost a weeks worth of posts.  I gave more info on the News board.
