Here are the rules for the Minnow contest on February 22

MINNOW R.O.G.

Contest Director John Buntin

1. Model must be built to plan.

2. Propeller - SIG, 5-1/2 inch, red or black plastic

3. Must use SIG nylon prop bearing -Bushings, washers, and beads will be allowed.

4. Tissue covering - No plastic film

5. No weight limit, but all wood sizes must be to plan.

6.  All flights must R.O.G.

7. Any attempted flight over 10 seconds is official.

8. Timing starts at release of plane.

9. Five attempts allowed.  Score is total of best two flights.

10. Contest is over at 11:40 AM.

11. Non-fliers and those repairing models must stand behind the black line.

12.  All contestants, audience, and officials must attempt to have fun.  Anyone not having fun will be directed to leave the contest site immediately.

This is one of the most popular contests.  Almost every member has a Minnow.

Most of the members present were practicing with them during the flying session after the meeting.  There were so many Minnows in the air that there was actually a head on collision between two of them.  No damage was done.  Minnows are noted for their almost instantaneous recovery after hitting something.  My current one has been bounced off so many obstructions that I call it "Timex".

Ooops! Embarrassed

I forgot mention the time of the Wednesday morning meetings.  The meetings are at 9:00 AM with the flying sessions from 10:00 til noon.

As I said, if any of you are in the area you are quite welcome.  You might want to e-mail me on Tuesday if you intend to come since every once and a while the Park Department closes the gym for some maintenance issue and we usually know about it the week before,

Howard

The P-18 contest was held February 01.  It went very smoothly thanks to the efforts of the CD, Barry Dougherty.  The contest was P-18 Hawk, per plan, with any prop and front bearing allowed. (Per CD's discretion.)  All were scratch built except for Dave Gee's entry which was a Laser Cut Planes kit.

The results were:

1. Lowell Norenberg                 234.6 seconds
2. Don Martin                            228.1
3. Stan Christopher                  224.2
4. Pete Basone                         172.0
5. Wynn Hammer                      129.7
6. Dave Gee                              121.7
7. Bud Matthews                       119.9
8. John Buntin                           107.9

Some pictures,  Dave Gee launching,  John Buntin weighing in with Barry Dougherty at the scale, and Barry totaling the scores under the watchful eyes of Don Martin and myself.
