If you're into recycling, the next time you are at the "Golden Arches" treating yourself to a shake or one of those super thick slurpies (or whatever they're called) SAVE the straw (or better, simply ask for a couple of "spares").  They have a diameter of 5/8ths inch and are 8 inches long.  The plastic (very thin) is quite rigid, making them nearly perfect for most Peanut models up thru most 16 inch span planes.

For larger planes, they can be ganged together by making up a split coupler from the same material.  Probably good for a max rubber X-section of 4 x 1/8th.

Found a great discussion on blast tubes on the Guillow's Model Builders site; Tom Arnold's post is quite informative: Click Here

Keep an eye out for any of the packing tubes at stores with a thin wall.  They can be cardboard, aluminum, plastic.  You can also make them from rolled balsa.  Wrap the wet balsa around a wooden dowel the size you need for the opening in the nose of your model. Use masking tape or if you have an old ace bandage to wrap with till it dries.  Once dry glue the edges (Which can be cut  with a straight edge if over lapped) with cyano glue (super glue).

Need  a couple of winding tubes of different sizes.  Are they available for purchase somewhere?  How would I go about making one?
Thanks, George
