I still need to work on the floats..rigging, rudders, rudder control lines, etc

then the windows - after that it will need nav and beacon lights and that should do it.

The side flashes are part of the kit provided markings..which include the wing registration, tail reg, and Stinson logo.

I use charcoal black trim film to make the panel lines and control surface demarcations - I cut about an 8-10" section from the sheet (which comes in a 6" x 36" sheet) and I slice off the thinnest strips I can make using a straightedge and x-acto knife. After they are applied and all other decals and panel lines are done, I give the airplane a good two coats of semi-gloss sealer.

She's gorgeous!!
OK, need some details on how you achieved those panel lines around the rear of the cowling and the flash down the side of the fuselage.  Techniques please?  Great looking model!

The Marcoux-Bromberg is actually the Keith Rider R8 and was purchased by Rudy Profant. Rudy modified it slightly and changed the color scheme to yellow/black and is now the New England Air Museum. Better views at Holcomb's Areodrome, www.airminded.net and search under Golden Age Aircraft.

ah..so a little mishap becomes a challenge and an opportunity eh..? cool

Heywooood - I have not been ignoring your comments, been away for some time for some R & R. The Ryan has become the challenge you mentioned and am looking at it as the lemons to lemonade situation. May not be very soon as I'm going to concentrate on Golden Age racers, next is the Marcoux-Bromberg owned by Rudy Profant. I've got lots of info on it so in time...

Looks great.  I've always loved the Stinson.  It's on my "To Do" list and hopefully will be built some day.
Keep up the great work! Smiley

Thank you, Tom
There is a beautiful model of an SR-8 at the San Diego Aerospace Museum with about a 38" wingspan that is just gorgeous. Ever since I saw it I have been interested in the Stinson brand and the series of Reliant aircraft they built.

This will be my third attempt to recreate a Stinson Reliant and the first on floats. The other two were done many years ago and do not survive.

I guess you can see that the wing center section has been infilled and the outer wing panels attached to it..also the floats have been laid up.
As soon as I finish the wing I can begin on the tail surfaces - then the floats can be finished up.
Once I have all that done I can start on the float struts.

It's funny how tricky all of these kits have been in some aspects. I guess the Guillows Cessna 170 was pretty straightforward...but all the others had these deceptively complex little situations that had to be worked out.

The tricks here so far are getting these wings set up (still in progress)
The floats situated squarely (not started)
These main gear supports carved and installed (in progress)
The windscreen pilasters and glazing installed correctly (not started)
The interior reasonably detailed (in progress)
The engine cowling and engine installed correctly using the kit plans and materials augmented slightly..(in progress)

The real adventure will be these floats and struts I think...the geometry is different from what I had with the Guillows Beaver kit. I HAVE to get it right.
