I don't want to hijack this thread Skye...but I did ride in the Goose right seat for a water takeoff and landing.  San Pedro Harbor.  Taxied down the ramp into the water and then the "United" pilot on his day off revved up those radials and we thundered out the harbor with him pulling on the yoke to get her up on the step... took a lot of effort and then once on the step she just jumped into the air.  What a ride!!!

thank you for posting these images of the Widgeon, bigrip...more than I had found when I was researching the plane.
I think at some point I might want to try a micro RC version of this kit.

Sky9: you too?  You rode in the Goose and sat in the co-pilot's seat to Catalina Island?  So did I!!  It was out of Long Beach, CA.  He didn't have retractable floats, had to hand-crank the gear up.  Fantastic flight!  Loved every minute of it.  Skye

I love all the Grumman Flying boats!  I'm a bit partial to the Goose having the privilege of riding in one to Catalina Island and siting in the CoPilot seat.  Never forget that ride!!!

Your Widgeon is coming along nicely!  Looking forward to more progress!

I hope to do a Mallard and Albatross in the future!

so this is the second Widgeon from last week to where it sits today..fuselage is completely infilled, the cabin and cockpit are complete. the whole thing has been sanded and sealed.
Next step is the wing layup. Then I have to figure out the radial engine modification. I have a pair of cowlings and nacelles here that will need a lot of surgery in order to fit. I hope this works.

I still cannot decide on the aircraft livery...

I have started on the Widgeon Part Deux

I am thinking of modifying the kit with radial engines to replace the Rangers she came with...also the paint will either be the Coast Guard kit referenced scheme - or a civilian tourist hauler of the PNW or Alaska. I can't decide

Thank you, Sir - I appreciate the encouragement.

I have to admit I really like the model too - the kit was great and the subject has always been a favorite of mine.
I love the way it looks on floats. If you are thinking of making a float plane those Guillows float kits can easily be extended for use on a ton of other kits. I'm thinking of the Guillows Pilatus Porter as well as the Dumas Fairchild before I'm done..

Grin Yeah, that removable cockpits surprised me a lot when I saw first.
Some were very ingenious, others were simpler.
I took the idea for my 20" J-3
Then I made the tandem two seats & control sticks removable for flying usin planes lateral  (working) door and window to extract.
May be I can do some dig to see if I found some pics

I think a good candidate for furure static project for you I think can be the DH-89 on floats  too. Loved that one.
Lips Sealed forgive me please if u dont like the plane!!

I dream with an alaska "diorama" with the plane, a lake fishing hut, and some guys fishing, crazy isnt it? Grin Grin Grin

Thank you Alfredo - much appreciated !
You're right that the added interior makes the airplane too heavy for rubber powered flight - and somewhat less than ideal for electric R/C, even though I use only card stock and balsa for 95% of the work. But the real reason these are more apt to be display models is the balsa infill construction method. It just adds too much additional weight (and effort) to make for a viable flying model..despite advances in the electric power and lighter weight/smaller R/C components...

Removable cockpits!! I would LOVE to see that !

I liked a Lot!!! specially being a floatplane.
I  guess  only reason to be static /display is the cockpit scale reproduction.
That reminds me an old friend o mine and great modeller that used to make "removable cockpits" to allow rubber band to be installed for flying.

Thanks guys for the well wishes. Good progress every day and in about 2 more weeks I get the silicon oil removed from my right eye and then all will be completely done.

Ditto what Heywood said...my wife just had a similar surgery.  She's doing well now.  Best of luck with your recovery!
