Congrats Ray. You certainly have unique interests. I still plan to do an autogyro some day.

She FLY'S!!!!   Cheesy

A brief one but she works, right after lift off she banked to the right, flew sideways and I had to catch it, I have videos and will post in a day or 2, I will make another flight tomorrow in am after I put some counter weight on the left wheel, I hope I can get a straight lift off and long flight. Just a few changes need to be made on the final version of this model and she will be a good flyer.  Smiley

Cheers, Ray.

Ray, hope the additional power will do the trick.  Too bad you can't just swap out the gears like a quick change rearend in a hotrod!

Thanks Shipwreck, I have been designing rubber powered helicopters for over 40 years now and I still don't have everything figured out yet, sometimes my models will fly and sometimes they don't, I attempted another flight on the Bell this morning and she refuses to get off the ground, I think the 2 to 1 drive ratio is not enough to get the rotors up to flying speed, I will put more rubber in it in the morning and try again, worst case, I will build another one.  Wink

Cheers, Ray.

Ok, new rotor hub made, kept this very simple, no fly bar this time, main rotor shaft too long, made new one and shortened it, made opening for assess hatch, hatch door is drying, more tomorrow.

Cheers, Ray.

Tried a power up test with rotors on and noticed the rotor hub was not true, this caused an uneven tracking of the blades resulting in wobble, making a new rotor hub no big deal, will be ready to try again tomorrow, while I am at it I am making an access hatch to the main gear box assembly, will post pictures tomorrow.

Agree with Tom, a great creation. I've been following your creation from the start and must say your skills are absolutely terrific. Your casting and design methods are inspiring and you tissue work is also top drawer. Thanks for the posts and the picture of the creator, glad to see who is behind this great work.

OK, the Bell is now finished and ready to fly, weight is 70 grams with a rotor DIA of 26 inches, I have a 3 day weekend so I will try for flight then. She should fly with no issues.  Smiley

Thanks Tom, I will have to do that, the rotor blades are fairly simple, I cut out each rotor blade pattern from 1/16" balsa and just eye ball sand them to an airfoil shape and seal with liquid floor wax, about 6 to 8 thin coats, sanding in between each coat, another way is to put a few light coats, 2 to 3 of thin CA and sand that smooth, either way not a lot of weight is added.  Wink
