     The winged figurine has two pairs of wings in the shape of a dragonfly's wings, but the wings are feathered.
     The breaking wave also holds the heads of two other Zephyrs, AND ,  the BEARDED HEAD OF NEPTUNE,  the God of the Sea.
     All of this is surrounded by Octopii and Crabs situated around the upper sides of the marble base.
     There are four ringed bronze "handles" figure ornaments around the green marble base (I cannot make out the figure - a lion's head? anyone know?).
     The symbolism represents speed, and the conquering of the elements of sea and air.

     So then in 1912, Schneider proposed an annual contest for sea planes - the "Coupe d'Aviation Maritime Jacques Schneider".  The first inaugural competition was held in 1913 in the Mediterranean Sea off of Monaco, where they had to fly a course over 150 miles. 
     He paid for, and built, the Schneider Trophy for the winner.  The Trophy was worth just as much as the prize money, which was  25,000  gold Francs.  In 1913,   25,000  gold Francs equates to  $270,850  worth of gold in 2015 (relative worth).

Jacques' Grandfather was Adolphe Schneider (1802 - 1845 died from a fall from a horse), who, with younger brother Joseph Eugene (1805 - 1875), together in 1836, bought iron ore mines and forges around Le Creusot, France.  In 1838, they built the first French Locomotive.  the giant Creusot Steam Hammer (a forge), built in 1877, was capable of a blow of up to 100 tons - the most powerful in the world until 1891.  These steam forges were eventually made redundant by hydraulic and mechanical steel presses.  Schneider-Creusot, or Schneider et Cie, was a historic French iron and steel-mill which became a major arms manufacturer. After World War II, it evolved into Schneider Electric.

     This Trophy has one of the most captivating, and interesting, and intriguing sculptures of all time, when one actually looks at it, and studies it.  Closer examination draws one to understanding and interpreting the compelling symbolism, and intent, and meaning, of the various facets of this work of art.

     This topic is dedicated to all of the extremely talented, skilled modellers, and their fantastic renditions of the various racing seaplanes, who participated in the Schneider Trophy Cookup. 
(If only I could find one of those plastic Schneider Trophy ashtrays for a prize for the winner of the cookup!)  WELL DONE EVERYONE !!
