These pics show the color match of the infill planking to be more flattering ...

One layer of paint was painted on the infill planking of the nose.  It looks pretty bright when it is wet paint.  Maybe the paint will fade to the faded dull orange of the faded tissue.
There are lots of little tissue tears on the plane.  I am also keeping the tissue off of the bottom of the rear fuse, for better access to the rear motor peg mount, for changing broken rubber motors, or putting on fresh new ones, or trying different motors.
But she is ready now for some test glides and flights.  The weather got really cold (compared to the last two weeks) today - 43 deg F in the AM and only as high as 45 deg F at 4 PM.  Looks like tomorrow Thursday,  is the only day with acceptable winds - 5 mph gusting to 9 mph, and sunny and a high of 54 deg F.  Other than Thur, it is forecast to be way too windy to fly for the next week or so.
It's all or nothing tomorrow for fall color pics - I hope she still flies ...

I decided to try to match the orange tissue on the model, and paint that same color onto the infill planking on the nose, to add a little color to the model (it used to be covered with yellow tissue).
Looks like the "pure pumpkin" color mixed with white acrylic paint got it pretty close.
I used green painter's masking tape, to mask off the area to be taped (nervous fingers), and I just held the plane by hand without blocking it up solid, to paint it.

The infill planking is all sanded as best I could.  I bought many of these Crocket Hooks from George at "Volare", because I ran out of "S" hooks - they go flying when the rubber breaks and you cannot find them ...
Does anyone know how to hook up the Crocket Hooks?  Do you have to bend the prop shaft in a particular way?  What are the two holes in the base of the shaft of the Crocket Hook for? - just use one hole for the prop shaft hook?   Is there any special way to attach the rubber to these hooks?  I can't find anything - anyone know a link?

I got the infill planking on the nose done today.  It was NOT easy because of the contours - needed 8 planks of various sizes to do it.  I had to use   1/8"  and   3/32"   light balsa.  Time to sand it out and make some motors and try Crocket hooks (for the first time) at the front of the rubber to the prop hook.

Well, look at that!  the test fit is perfect - right into it's old cracks.  I can't believe it - and the front face of the front former is EVEN.
Now to glue it all up and add a couple of missing sliver chips of balsa, and then infill plank it all - it WILL fly again this Fall.
We just had 2 weeks of unseasonably warm weather for mid October (start of Indian Summer), so the cooler weather will now quicken the color change of the leaves, so I will try to get some fall color pics of the Air Camper flying around in the Cricket Wicket of Jackson Park.
Here are a couple of my best old dreamy "poetic" pics from Sept 13, 2017, inside the Windsor Stadium Football field, which is right next to Kennedy High School and the Cricket Wicket.

Also, loose pieces of the front former still inside the nose, were cracked and were now also glued in the cracks and held in place with SOBO glue.
The bottom broken off piece, with the 3 stringers, is all dry and ready to test fit.  The spacer support plate is glued behind the second former's bottom.

I also used SOBO glue to fix up the separate broken off piece from the bottom of the forward fuse.  It has part of the bottom of the first former, and part of the bottom of the second former,  and three stringers that were loose where they were attached to the piece of the front former.  I blocked it up to the proper position, and liberally applied the SOBO glue.

I then glued that spacer in with fast drying (one hour), good tack, SOBO white glue, PVA polyvinyl acetate glue - dries clear and won't turn yellow.

I fitted a small   30mm X 5mm X 3/32"   thick, spacer support plate in behind the two bottom legs sides of what is left of the second former, in behind and beside where the bottom piece of the former broke off.

I carved away all of the tissue I could, and then sanded away the rest with a small balsa stick with 220 grit sandpaper glued to it.
