Like Tom says, can't resist a mockup. I think it's looking pretty cool.

Did a really good job at getting that first bulkhead on square. Not going to get upset about it, I'm going to glue on some soft 1/8" sheet, and sand it square. I don't know what happened, I just can't see anymore. And I'm even already wearing 2x reading glasses.

Dave...I've used that kind of jig for years.  Mine was just two strips of 1"X2"X24".  Works great. Wink Cool

Al, nice hearing from you. Hope you enjoy the build. This idea in the picture is not my original idea. I think I remember some kind of building jig for sale, but this was the basic idea. I love this idea for building these keel fuselages.

Your building of the Hurricane as a radial engine racer is an interesting idea.  I am looking forward to reading this build and wish you well with it.

The very first thing I did on this build, was went downstairs and started my molds. There are some small air pockets, but I don't think I am going to worry about them. Need to trim them next. Then I need to get some soda, for the next step. I have to look, I may have some plastic that may work. Too bad beer does not come in plastic bottles.

Lengthened the nose to make up for not using the plastic Hurricane cowling anymore. After looking at the P-26 wheel pants again, I think I am going to bring them more forward, shorten them somewhat, and probably have to change the angle on the bottom of them. Do I have to worry about these wheels being at the right point for this airplane to actually land and work, NO. The beauty of tether.

I'll have to be honest, I haven't been this excited about a build in a long time. For the first time, I am the instructions and plans. When I saw this "Hot Stuff" photo in the Wnter cookup, Those forward swept wheel pants I thought were cool. They wont be as short, but I'm thinking of modifying the P-26 wheel pants to a forward swept design. And also, I like the fuselage stripe design on that red Corsair. Coming off the P-26 cowl, around that radial engine, I think will work. Colors of red, white, and blue keep coming into my head, but I have to watch, I don't want it to remind people of "Miss USA". Have allot of parts cut out so far. I think for the fun of it also, I am going to try Toms idea of watered down yellow carpenters glue.

Ian,
I didn't realize this till after you said what you did. But, what I realized is that, these tether flying builds are so forgiving, easy, and stress free. Just simply keep adding weight to the nose, to where the airplane doesn't want to climb anymore, and maintains a level flight. And every one that I have built so far, turns out to be a champ of a flyer.

Found this kit in the attic the other day digging around. As shown in the picture, the kit is not exactly complete. So it is pretty much worthless to try to sell. I am also almost getting ready to start the winter Cookup with a Boeing P-26 Peashooter, and going to try to follow the rules. So, on that note, I feel like breaking all the rules. I'm thinking of slapping the P-26 large radial engine and cowling on the front of this Hurricane. A man's engine is round. I'm going to use craft paints and put a race plane/sleek paint scheme on it. And I'm thinking of trying to use Durham's rock hard putty in the canopy, to make a mold. And try plunge molding from a soda bottle. One build, follow the rules, this build, "don't need no stinkin rules".
