I remember the words of one of my instructors in an rc club I was a member of back in the day, "There are those who have crashed and those who will crash! There are no exceptions!"
I've found this to be true!!!

Thanks Tom.  If I were a true master I wouldn't have done the dumb things that damaged the models!

Cheers,

Mike

Got the Tigercat fixed as well.  The wing had broken loose from the fuselage, damaging the upper formers and breaking the former at the LE below the cockpit.  I first repaired the formers, keeping the wing loose. Then I aligned the wing and glued in reinforcing blocks at each of the formers, gluing them both to their former and the wing.  At the LE and TE I put triangular sheet reinforcements in, and added triangular doublers to the front side of the former in front of the wing.

We'll see how wise the reinforcements are.  The wing is in very solidly now - next crash will probably break the fuselage or wing panel rather than knocking the wing loose...

I spliced a new piece into the broken stringer at the nose, applied some fresh tissue over the holes, doped it and touched up the panel lines, then glued the canopy back on and re-applied the canopy framing.  This time I applied the canopy framing with thinned canopy glue rather than glue stick.  The glue stick came loose in the heat at WestFAC, so I won't be using that on canopy framing any more.

Hopefully the wind at Gainesville this weekend will allow some flying!

Cheers,

Mike

Skyrocket repairs were pretty straightforward.  I had used Duco cement to attach the nacelles, so with a little acetone I was able to loosen the glue joint and remove the nacelle without adding to the damage.  Stringer breaks were clean, so I just glued the breaks back together, trimmed the surrounding tissue and patched over the holes.  Final step was to glue the nacelle back on (again using Duco).

On to the Tigercat repairs...

I went flying last Friday - weather was beautiful but my plane-handling was not.  The Skyrocket popped out of the stooge while winding, crunching the left nacelle, and bad decisions on my part led to the Tigercat smacking into some not-very-tall grass, knocking the wing loose and popping formers and stringers along the top of the fuselage.  Repairs are in work...
