Hi Paul - Henry Toews designed the one I built and to my knowledge hasn't published plans for it.  However, Paul Bradley made a very similar model (same size, bit different wing buildup) and has published plans and tissue templates for it on his site at:  http://www.parmodels.com/me-262-fac-jet-cat

If you build one please post pics and a flight report.

Cheers,

Mike

Is there a set of plans for this that I can get?
Thanks Paul

Ran across this video of a real 262 at an airshow in Germany in 2006. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8FA1yCfz9s4

Mike,
I admit that I don't use my best balsa for Catajets...I usually use the craft store balsa from Michaels etc.  It's usually much harder balsa 7-9 lb stuff that holds up to abuse much better than the lighter stuff I use on rubber powered balsa models.  I'll take your advice on the nose ply doubler and extend it back past the intake.  I'll have to double check the top and side views again.  Thanks for input.  Edit:  changes made to plan.  Thanks again for your input!
Tom

Tom that's going to be big!  It'll be interesting to see how well your nose section holds up.  I originally made mine from balsa as part of the 1/8" sheet fuselage core (see pictures on my plan), but the model flies so fast that after a couple of months it was very chewed up.  My solution was to insert a section of lite ply; this has held up well over the last year.

My suggestion for your design would be to make the nose core forward of the canopy from hard balsa.  You might also want to extend the ply doublers aft to the rear end of the canopy so the nose won't snap off at the intakes.

One question on your plan - it looks like the wing and engine pods are further forward on the top view than they are on the side view - am I seeing that right?

I like your approach to the wing.  I'm tempted to try this at about 12" span.

Mike

Here's a link to my Scimitar plan.  I drew it at 1/8" sheet fuselage with 1/64" ply doublers on the nose.  Of course that could be increased to 1/4" sheet. I will build using the lighter 1/8" sheet.  Here's a link to the plan: Scimitar Plan

I liked the performance of the 262 at 17" so I drew my plan to 17" with the built up wing but I used a cracked rib structure rather than cut out ribs. Still have to calculate the CG.

HPA...That was my first exposure to Catajets!!! They are highly addictive! I'm definitely getting the itch to build some more.  I've borrowed the built up wing from your 262 in my Scimitar CAD drawing. Which I'll post later.  I like the looks of it!  I'm also setting the incidence to 0 degrees for wing and stab.  And plan on using gurney flaps for trimming.

Thanks Tom.  I don't know if Henry intends to publish or distribute the Me-262 plan - I'll ask him.  I cobbled the Scimitar up from three-views and pictures.  There's some summary information in the Catajet thread on HipPocket beginning on post #507:

http://www.hippocketaeronautics.com/hpa_forum/index.php?topic=3985.500

I updated my Scimitar working drawing with a few notes and pictures but the PDF is too big for the file attachment limits here.  I've attached a JPG image of it.

If (when) I make another I'll probably scale it up a bit, maybe more like 9-10" span, and I'll reduce the amount of enlargement on the stab from 133% to something more like 120%.

Having some way of adjusting the stab angle is critical for this small, fast jetcat.  I used a nylon jackscrew with a music wire pivot, but you could use shims or some other method.  It's very sensitive - I usually adjust the 0-80 screw 1/8-1/4 turn max when making changes.

The wings are flat (no dihedral) so the washout is important - I also attached a slide showing how I approached sanding washout into the sheet wings.

If you make one please post some pictures and let me know how it flies for you.

Mike

Wow Mike...gonna have to build me those two Catajets...outstanding flights from both birds!  Do you know if they sell just the plans for that 262?
Is the Scimitar a kit also or did you take that off of some Jetex plan?

Well done...looks like you've really got her trimmed out!  She transitions well from the launch power to glide and the glide looks really flattened out from the first video!  Just outstanding!!!

Now I've got to build another catajet!
