A very helpful HPA poster passed that link along to me too. The OZ website lists a supplemental page, but for some reason, I couldn't download that page.

Many thanks to Indoorflyer for his help!

Here's my repeat..."y'all have heard the joke about Pete and Repeat right?"  Repeat=The trick I use to align the saran wrap is to anchor one corner (usually top left or right with a magnet). Once you have one of the top corners anchored,  pull the saran wrap on that side straight down and smooth it flat over plan.  Then start at the opposite top side and smooth the saran wrap over the plan and anchor that corner with another magnet.  Then repeat as you did the opposite bottom.  This usually works for me.  As clean as your area is you'll have no problems with things getting under your saran wrap....don't ask  Roll Eyes Embarrassed I tend to set up board before cleaning area at times!!! Shocked Embarrassed Wink

OK! I just started my first magnaboard build. The saran wrap was a real pain to line up using the magnets Tongue. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Cheesy

Tom and AK,

Airfoils don't have to be flat-bottom for FAC events.  The restriction (for FAC Scale) is that the model can't have undercambered airfoil unless the real aircraft had it.  For Dime Scale you can't have an undercambered airfoil or single-surface airfoil unless the model plan shows it.  Semi-symmetrical and symmetrical airfoils are allowed.

Cheers,

Mike

No problem! The ribs above were for the Brewster XSBA-1. I made the bottom flat, sorta like a Clark Y airfoil, more for building ease than anything else.

Great Alfakilo...
If you plan on competing in the future within FAC (Flying Aces Club) I believe the rules require flat bottomed airfoils, unless otherwise it's specified in old timer plans and rules for the event.  You'll want to check that before you plan to compete.  FYI

Thanks, Tom! I use the same method you mentioned where I use the MSWord tool to adjust the rib chord to match the plan. Once the wing is built, I then use a ruler (or similar straight edge) to sand the ribs to final shape.

For example, in the attached picture, the largest rib was copied from a 3-view from the 'net using a screenshot utility, its chord was sized from the plan, and then it was pasted on to a .doc page. I then measured the chords of the other ribs and used the edge adjustment tool that you described to set their chord lengths. Then I made a second copy for the other wing panel and used rubber cement to stick them on a 1/32 sheet.

Tom, stated the how on the Bruning plan and I also learned something. Maybe now I can tackle the Comet P-37.

Thanks Tom, that was really a big help.

Pres' ribs are made using the root rib shown on the plans then the tip rib is extrapolated from from the root for length and then the other ribs can be made using the stack method.

The stack method(stack rectangular balsa strips the dimensions of the root rib, using the number of ribs needed, don't forget there's usually two panels requiring double ribs) is where a root rib template is made from plastic, metal sheet, plywood etc.  Then the tip template is made as the root template.  I recommend holes be made in the templates to hold "T-pins", small diameter screws and nuts etc. to hold the stack together while shaping the ribs from root to tip.

Math not being my forte, I cheat and enlarge and shrink (as needed) till the proper size is arrived at using MSWord picture where I can grab a corner of the template picture with the cursor and drag to the necessary size using the ruler edges of MSWord to determine the size.  I will then double check on the printed plan to make sure I was accurate.

After all this wordage, here's a link that show how with pictures: Click Here

The Gamma plan, for example. Box fuselage but no formers for the box. Wing ribs seem to be conventional but not shown.

Which plan are you speaking of? Some have cracked rib construction.

Let me know which and Ill look them up to see what I find.
