Thanks for all the comments guys, that was nice.

Just for the record, I am not a pro here, I am just a shoot from the hip kind of modeler. I've done plenty of my genius ideas, all to find out, I guess that's why they don't do that. And, I am not trying to jump ahead on Als build, this was something that just ended up on the back burner. I still have Als memorial build design on the back burner, with plans started for it.

My next step for the plans is to do a parts takeoff. I will repost the plans after I do that. Then after that, build the plane. Then find the CG, and find where the control horn should go. Then revise the plans again, to update what I learn. As far as anyone wanting to build from them, enjoy. I have the ability to print the plans full scale. So, if anyone is interested, let me know. Or you can tile them with Adobe Acrobat, and print yourself.

As far as the rudder offset, I am not seeing any on any of the pictures I previously attached. Yes, I am familiar with it on control line. And I found, run like heck, when the lines go slack. Hopefully, you get control back before you hear the crunch. At this time, I have no intention of doing any offset. Time will tell if this is right or wrong. All the other tethers I did, have zero offset. Tom is right, the other design you can just swing the pole behind you, and you don't have to constantly turn with the airplane.

I am also unsure about the handle setup. The independent handle, as in the pictures, you would be able to pull back on the lines to compensate. I have also seen a design with a lever attached to the pole. And, what is going to keep these lines from being all twisted. Time is going to tell for all of this.

I am just doing this for the fun of it. If it succeeds, great. If not, oh well.

Dave,
I am a fan of the Corsair to Smiley
Would pursue building that once you completed the plans. If you don't mind me building one also.
Thank you,
Paul

Ian's got a good point...
The whip style with u-control is a step above what Al did but lots of fun to be had.  With Al's single line set up you didn't have to turn in a circle and get dizzy.  You could just swing the plane around the pole as you held it up.

Dave, looks like a fun plan.  Your link on the swing site, I believe that's were it was, shows these u-control whip gliders very well.  Reminds me of the u-control profile planes we flew back then... first with the cox .049-.051's and then up to my Fox 35...one of my favorite engines.  But you could get pretty dizzy flying them.  Got to the wingover and was able to fly inverted but not well.  I look forward to this...coming together.

If you are not familiar with control-line, don't forget to build in ample rudder offset to keep those lines nice and tight.

This plan is still a work in progress. But this is where I am at.

Paul,
I have made the decision to take the step into the world of whip flying with elevator control. I am in the process of making plans for the Corsair. And am going to pursue its build. I downloaded a 3 view from The-blueprints.com, and scaled it to a size I want, enlarged the tail, like they usually do with control line scale jobs. If you are interested in a certain airplane, maybe I could help put together a set of plans for it for you?

In an idea to help keep things simple, this is a link I remembered that Al had over on Hippocket.

Be sure to also look for page 2 if you go there. I have always been intending to move into the control horn idea for a little more added fun. But have not had the time. But I'm sure you could keep it simple, and just build slab style without the horn.

I think that's a fantastic idea.

To honor Al...how about taking one of those models already built and rig her up for swing flying.  That's what I'm going to do!  Thinking of trying to set a time we could all fly together wherever we are?  What do you think?

I think I found my inspiration for my SIMPLEFLYER. I went right to the source. This is one of Als past posts.

Something brought me to the S&T website tonight.  Life has had me so busy this past year, I can't remember the last time I have been on this site this year. I have been thinking how I miss my hobbies, and spent next to zero time flying this year. Something told me to go to the S&T website.

I am saddened about hearing about Al. Rest in peace my dear friend, you will be missed.

It is sad, how life gets a hold of us, and the next thing we know, years have passed.

It saddens me how many builds I have started in life, and how many still sit awaiting my return. Because I have more important things to do, HA.

Yes, I would very much so, like to be a part of this build. Before my time is gone. And I'm going to make a decal, and name my airplane, SIMPLEFLYER.

Rest in peace my dear friend, you will be missed.
