I'd be in favor of the Piasecki HUP built in no-cal style.  No-cal comes out very light and the twin rotors should make for an interesting visual without the complexity of a built-up fuselage.

Well direct drive for this type of model just will not do, I am scraping this one and I will draw up the tandem for you guys to build.

I was able to fix the tail rotor issue, main pulley was slipping on shaft I was also able to increase the tail rotor DIA to 5 inches by removing the upper tail fin assembly, this was in the way and is not needed anyway it was just for looks, I made a smaller tail rotor pulley as well, now the model will hold position with no problems during testing, tomorrow I will try for flight. If all goes well I will tweak the plans and get them posted here, again direct drive, 1 to 1 requires quite a bit more power to get the main rotors up to flying speed.

I've got a solution in mind for a Kaman design.  Will start on that.

I am redoing the tail assembly and pulley, a few bugs to work out, should be ready to try flights again by the weekend. I want to make sure this works before posting the plans for you guys.

Bob I did not post the plans yet, but will so you guy's can have a go at it, I need to make some corrections to it first, Tom I am still tinkering, I tried reducing the main rotor blade pitch but that did not help, I am going to make a way smaller tail rotor pulley, this one is 1/2" DIA, I will try 1/4" DIA and post results, I am drawing up a NO-Cal Piasecki Retriever Tandem helicopter for you guys to build, no pulleys, just 2 motor sticks, simple rotor hubs, fixed pitch, I should have the prototype built by the weekend and we shall see.

Ray,
I'm in no way helicopter builder but was wondering if the angle of attack of the main rotor blades could be reduced thereby reducing the tork of the main rotors and still provide enough lift for flight.  Just a thought?
I really like the original suggested model helicopter you made the prototype of.  Good looking model.  I look forward to more progress on this.  I'm looking forward to building a heli!
