1st unit is done, it works but is clunky, need to fine tune this a bit.

Cool Ray. Can't wait to try this. I'm heading to the weak signal Toledo Ohio show next weekend. Never know what you will find in the swap shop.

Here are some drawings to show you how each coupler is set up.

Note, coupler # 3 has the pen end cap and rubber hook drive wire, the pinning hole location is slightly off center, this allows the drive wire shaft to be center when it is hooked onto the pin, a small hook is bent on the drive wire and is slipped over the installed pin and inserted thru the center hole drilled in the end cap, 5 minute epoxy is used to fill the inside of the end cap where the hooked part of the wire is and a balsa core plug is inserted inside tube on top of this, make sure it is center and turns true before epoxy sets up all the way.

Cheers, Ray K.

The pen tube is 5/16" DIA, very sturdy material yet light weight and is easy to cut with an x-acto knife. Smiley

First unit almost done, 1 more coupler to make and the U-Bracket and it will be ready for testing, been fiddling with dimension's to make sure it will be accurate and work for you guy's, actual build time per unit should be around a 1/2 hour per unit, I will time myself on the next one.

Here are a few pictures. Cheers, Ray K.

Another note, I am using ABS material for the bracket assembly, ABS is a high heat material, less susceptible to friction heat.

First unit almost done, will post pictures tomorrow.

Hi Marlin,

The U-bracket unfortunately is necessary to maintain stability of the unit during operation, I have tried to free float this type of drive and it will flop all over the place, this operates like a moore drive that I had in the R6, the plastic tube that will be within the U-bracket will have a little float room so I do not foresee this building up a great deal of friction during operation but we will see when I actually try it.

Engineering suggestion?  Would it be feasible to let the aluminum tube part float free?  My fear is that the bracket might introduce too much friction as it contains/rubs against the aluminum tube.

Common straight pins are used to pin everything together.

Here is what I have in mind, for a tandem helicopter 2 of these units will need to be built.

I found the ideal tubing to make this drive out of, disposable pen tubes, also an aluminum ring, even the end cap can be utilized in this type of drive, if it works I have got to get a patent on this design, I should have a working prototype of this drive finished by tomorrow or Friday.  Smiley
