Hi Huey - yes your build was a big part of my inspiration. I haven't really opened up the box or looked at the plan sheet yet, but it seemed to be the closest thing to what I have been after all these years.

I am hoping I can pull it off - your C3B looks great in that silver finish!
It looks like you've got a few more projects waiting in the rafters for their turn on the bench..

Heywood how are you? Here's as far as I got with my C3B. Wouldn't take much to finish. It's a nice kit to build.

Thanks Mike - I appreciate that very much. I am looking for 3-views and other reference materials for my conversion effort on the C3B...Should be a hoot

Superb work. Fit and finish as per your usual high standards. Looking forward to the next project.

We had a Cloudboy appear here at an airshow years ago - then one was featured in ‘Flight’ magazine about 10
years ago..I just love the look of it. Hopefully I’ll be able to stay motivated and uninterrupted once I start it up.

Overall the P40 kit #405 is very good. The canopy is not easy to attach with some difficulty fitting it to the fuselage. A good deal of filler was used and a porpoise might have been harmed..I can't swear to it either way.

I had wanted to model the Aleutian Tiger I had referenced earlier but ran out of funds for this project (really - before it even started lol) so I decided on a much more generic 'Port Moresby / Papua New Guinea' version. Mostly because the only good decals I had were the basic star roundels and a few numbers in this scale.
The Guillows decals are a sad joke...its really the only thing that can be said against their kits now that they are laser cut.

Here are a couple more images. I made the main LG retractable with functioning doors and then just made the tail wheel removable. This way I can either put the model on a shelf or hang it as 'in-flight' if I want to.

So - a couple of things.
I took a long break from model building smack in the middle of the P40 project.
But someone randomly happened to spot the fuselage on the shelf in my corporate shed-quarters and went on and on about
Warbirds and P40's until I figured it was time to see what this one was gonna look like.

So - here it is

Everything here is fine. I had some work to do and a few other distractions from the P40 effort.
Hopefully I can get back to it soon and post some progress pics. For now there is nothing new to post but no health issues.
Just shifting priorities.
Thank you for all the nice appraisals of the work to date and for the concern over my absence.
I have the P40 on the bench and a Stearman C3B waiting in the wings...as it were

I still build the old school way, Cork core board, T-pins, wax paper etc.. if it ain't broke

I'm a noob, but this is the way I'm doing it (but I substituted a piece of pink foam insulation for cork).

The fuselage in Reply #9 looks really nice!

I certainly hope this finds you in good cheer. Pray tell bad fortune hasn't stalled your work on the P-40, my favourite a/c design of all. Yes, it wasn't the quickest, nor the most nimble, the sturdiest nor did it set any long standing records, but in downright beauty and aerodynamic panache, it is the big cat's meow (roar)! Hope to see your continuance of this true Warhawk soon.
