Own plans from many years ago, Bob...posted both at the end of this thread...as well as the beginning.  Destroyed my only hard-copy during construction...don't think I'll be "going that way" again.  Wink

Thanks.

Here's Tom's "fiddly bits," detail stuff....

Canopy consists of a light paper frame pattern...spray painted OD (both sides) and then cellophane attached with 3m spay adhesive.  I still haven't found a truly successful way to attach that cellophane...too slick...something about it.... Huh  Will have to do.

As you can see...didn't make my final weight goal...again.  Oh well.

Bit of covering hear...light grey tissue.  Surface-mounted stringers call for covering fuselage in long narrow strips...done using wet method...worked wonderfully.

Landing gear incorporated...as was done on the original build.  Could have saved a bunch of weight just by leaving it off...but I personally favor photos of a models WITH LG...sooooo.

Cowling area is to be wrapped with 1/32" sheet balsa.

Basic framework construction...1/16"sq stock for a fuselage crutch...1/32" sheet balsa bulkheads with the exception of the two cowling 1 and 2 (1/16").  All stringers are 1/32" thick...some are 1/16" wide...all others are 1/32"sq.  Is that confusing? Cool

Goal was to have a final weight of 12g or less....hmmmm.

Vultee P-66 Vanguard

This is a synopsis of my final build for the SnT Fall Cookup 2018.  Subject is a Vultee P-66 Vanguard that I planned and constructed some 30 years ago.  The intent this time around was to build lighter...to that end I used predominantly 1/32" sheet balsa for ribs, bulkheads, and stringers.

Vanguard was part of a concept project initiated at Vultee's expense to construct a series of aircraft utilizing the same various component assembles, i.e, empennage and wing.  The basic trainer BT-13 was an overwhelming success, while the advanced trainer never reached production stage.  The fighter version was intended from the outset for export only, a contract for 146 units having been finalized with Sweden.  However...prior to delivery, the FDR administration slapped an embargo on all trade with the country.  As a result, all Vanguards were "seized" by the USAAF...with the majority being shipped to China in order to assist the AVG mission.  Very little is known of their record in Chinese service.
