Slow progress. This is the second attempt to join the fuselage pod to the wing. The first one looked OK until I stepped back a little only to find that I needed to redo it. Fortunately, the CA unglue stuff worked fine and no harm was done getting the parts apart.

I'm using white Esaki and a UHU stick. I predoped the frame with a 30/70 dope mix.

I'm making the canopy enclosure from balsa and vacuform and not using the kit canopy...the prototype canopy was not the same as the production version.

I thought I would start a separate thread for the rebuild of the Guillows P-38 since I'm changing it to the XP prototype. The engine booms fit the wing better than expected. Center pod is pretty much done, kept the plastic nose but filled in all the gun ports, etc with spackle. I'm doing the top of the wing/boom in 1/32 sheet, not using the plastic parts.

Over time, the balsa in the booms got pretty funky, some of which I could fix, some I'm just ignoring!! Everything forward of the wing is new engine contour.

I think the wing was covered in lightweight silkspan. It's really fragile, like old parchment. I'm thinking maybe a coat of dope will help.
