A blast from the past. I just discovered this online. Al (Simpleflyer) flew card stock models as tether flyers. http://www.fiddlersgreen.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=4400

Tom, LOL, yes you caught me, that second picture is slowing down and heading down. Let's just say, swinging my arm, and working the camera, challenges my brain cell.

Flight pictures. Just a thought for everyone. Print a 3 view picture/drawing of an airplane onto an 8 1/2" x 11" paper. Glue stick it to some 1/16" balsa and cut out. The fuselage, tail, and wing would just be a profile shape, Elmers glue together. Some clay on the nose, 5' length of string attached to the wingtip, attached to a 3' dowel. Turn that grandchild of yours into an aircraft mechanic, pilot, or air traffic controller one weekend. Inspire him/her to design and draw their own airplane and fly it.

All done. If the sun comes out today, so the picture is not so dark, I'll get a flight shot. I just used a universal mount for the attach point, to give me adjustment for fine tuning.

I added a forward bulkhead at the front of the cargo bay out of balsa. It still has the paper template glued to it, is why it just looks like paper. I'm cheating, and using a little foam for the nosecone. I can't imagine getting that little nosecone cutout to work, without me ending up with glue all over. I tried a bit of a test flight tonight, and it looks like the attach point should be right where the American flag is on the side. I am going to try to install that long clear rail as my attach point, right below the flag. Fancy nose weight, an old nut.

The Shuttle looks great!!! The rocket engine bells really set her off.  Are you going to reinforce the nose in anyway?  I'm really liking this model!!!

Making progress. I have been considering card models on the back burner for some time now. For some reason, I always felt they would not be for me. To my surprise, I'm having a blast with this build. That cutting board was definitely a blessing with cutting card stock.

Space Shuttle cardstock/balsa tether flyer

Well, after the "Locker 1000", I'm in the mood for a Space Shuttle tether. And of course, I have to put my own spin on it. I am going to use these plans to cover 1/16" balsa for the wings and vert stab/rudder. But then, use the card stock to build the fuselage. I am just doing this to try to open the door a little more, on how easy these tether flyers are to build and fly. I wish I had know about this tether idea as a kid. And I wish more kids today knew about this idea. As an introduction before control line, this would be a fantastic starter. These models really don't crash, so there is no first model crash and burn frustration/burnout.
