Liaison...1968...a Pilatus Porter...Air America (CIA)...Laos...below Lima Site 85 (TACAN site directing all-weather strikes on Hanoi).

Again...there are so many choices here.

the Fairchild_AU-23A_Peacemaker
has a lot of merit for becoming a rubber power model.

What does COIN stand for?

Brad,

COunter Insurgency.  Basically a small, lightweight, very maneuverable, cheap attack aircraft. Contemporary military basic trainers are usually designed to serve as COIN aircraft. Lots of interesting possibilities there!

It really is a very nice build category, Tom...lots of subjects to choose from...lots of potential.

Really, it's only in the past 50 years that the world has seen the advent of dedicated COIN-designed ac.

Liaison is now a "comfort issue," like a Lear Jet, or whatever the AF called it officially...I'm certain they have something nice for the job today.  For me, it was Braniff, Seaboard World, and Flying Tiger Airlines.  Shocked Grin

Hey, how about...well, an RB-57...or Spooky or Puff, AC-47, AC-119...not to mention an AC-130?  Wink Cheesy Grin Smiley  Lockheed produced a very special slow speed, low altitude snooper ac during Vietnam...can't recall the name right offhand...very stealthy...a silent flyer.  I'm old enough (as are a lot of you) to recall RB-47's, and all-blacked-painted RB-57's, and those beautiful EC-121's.  Of course, there are always those venerable Grasshoppers, and Cubs, Birddogs, and Broncos...all good choices (and less imposing as well!  Wink Cheesy Grin).

Oh Mike...in McCudden's memoirs, between postings, he used a Pup to fly himself about in England as a Special Combat Tactics flight instructor...said he enjoyed it very much!  Liaison....Wink

Anyway...I've voted.  Smiley  I've got an interesting B-52 plan...rubber-powered.  Still, there are so many ac to choose from.  It would be a real shame for anyone interested to miss this Cookup...should be a lot of fun.

My only request Tom, is that you draw it out as long as the previous one went.  Grin

Note taken Neal... so it pretty wide open, build what you want if you can show it was a Liaison/COIN aircraft!!!  Remember were here to include not exclude anyone!!!

Just a few observations....  Liaison/COIN is a rather large grouping by definition...any squadron hack served as a liaison aircraft...including captured enemy aircraft...but most often a tired/retired ac.  Technically...a patherfinder mission is a liaison between itself and an attacking formation or ground unit...as in ww2 Mosquitos, Apaches, etc.  The 95th Aero Squadron AEF used a capture Hanover CL-type as a squadron hack.  8th AF heavy bomber squadrons were known to use various Allied types for the same purpose...Vultee Vengence, for example.  How about a B-17E flying MacArthur from Mindinao to Australia...liaison.

As for COIN...again, technically a large number of missions (if not the majority) flown by the B-52 in Vietnam and/or Afghanistan were of a counter-insurgency nature, not to mention Phantoms, Skyraiders, Skyhawks, Intruders, Crusaders...etc.  Pretty broad category...in fact, it's enormous...and I haven't even mentioned "the other guy," Ki-46, or Fw-189, or a Polikarpov biplane.  Wink

As for scale...dime or peanut...might as well forget them...build the above to the scale you like.  In fact, you can dismiss the WWI/WWII categories as well, as they're all-inclusive in the Liaison/COIN column.  You're only choosing from three categories...just my observation.

oh I voted... or tried, if I didn't.

just trying to say am not gunna baulk if you all
go for something out of my comfort zone.

a ford trimotor may give me a lotta pause however...
I also am not thinking the phantom62 is likely to be in a bake up...

a Ravoli C XXII
or Sturmstrudel
or perhaps a between the wars Soufflee with peashooters

You know, something that is not in a kit
from Guillows or Stoufers.

Victor,
The poll will determine the direction of the Cookup as to what type of plane we will build.  So depending on the results we'll see if your desires fall into the cookup.  I assume that you have voted?  If not do so.  I look forward to you participating.

I'll join in to the cookup...
I do not think I've done a biplane.

I've been considering a mitsubishi zero kit.
making a canopy is not on my bucket list...
however I think I can do that.

Well,  I modified the poll to allow each modeler to vote twice, for your choice of two categories. This may help in determining which category we choose for this cookup.  Remember we need at least five committed participants to start a cookup.

I've always like the Cavalier Mustang, it's on my "ToDo" list!!  I can't wait to see your version!

I have modified the poll to allow two (2) votes per person. So if you've already voted, you have one more vote to cast!
