Thanks, Andy...appreciate your comment.  There are so many aircraft to model...I've already gone through at least a dozen prospective projects in my mind since finishing this trio!  One moment it's this one...then next moment it's all shifted to something else!  I'm thinking of taking some time away from this hobby...but know that won't last long at all.  Looking forward to your build in the up n' coming cook-up.  Smiley

Very nice! Who doesn't have a love affair with this moment in history!! I hope these fly as well as they look!

Why not another trio to go along with these? Maybe the Flying Tiger aircraft...P-40B, Ki-27,and Ki-43.

Thank you, Gentlemen.  This project has been a complete delight.  I have to confess Mike, that the Emil is my favorite as well…just something about it…I could tell that it would be my favorite from the moment it was framed-up for a bones shot.  It’s the lines…just appears so business-like, very predatory in appearance…like the difference between a Peacock and an Eagle (even a Vulture!)…one is beautiful…but you immediately know what the latter is all about.

As far as detail…well, complete is too much…there are a lot of bumps n’ bulges, scoops n’ intakes…what is enough and how much is too much…that’s the question?  Detail, imo, is in the mind of the beholder…some you have to see, but a lot is part of one’s imagination…it’s there even when it isn’t.  Panel lines…the bones underneath give the illusion that they’re present.  The unit emblem…it’s painted on with a brush…no tissue-cal…it’s so small that it appears detailed…but it really isn’t.  As for Mike (Canada) saying that it looks “right and tight,” that too is an illusion.  My personal viewpoint is that the more pristine a model looks, the less realistic it really is…almost toy-like.  I’m thinking of that photo of Balthasar’s 109 pushed back into the trees…with sand all over its tires…a grizzled crew-chief wouldn’t like that at all…but he’d accept it as part n’ parcel of operations at a forward airfield.  Imagine all the sap…not to mention bird droppings coming down on the Chief’s baby from up in those trees!  So blotches and splotches, dents n’ bangs n’ touch-ups…if time permitted…would all be part of an aircraft…and a model.  Incidentally, there’s a reason the final photos were all taken outside…to get away from the camera’s flash…which SEES ALL!

Thanks, Friends…I’ve really enjoyed these builds…and more than that…I've had an opportunity to appreciate the men associated with these aircraft…just a little bit more.

That's a great trio of models Neal!  All well done - of the three I think the Me-109 is my favorite.  Thanks for sharing your builds.

Some very fine work there Neal, covering and detail all right and tight.

Great set of builds!  Smiley Great finishes on all of these! It has inspired me to take on another WWII Project for the Mike Nassise cookup over on HPA. I am planning on building his P-51A as the Apache A-36 given to the Brits for evaluation as a Dive Bomber RAF serial number EW998.

Here's a comparison photo of the Guillows and Comet Hurricanes...Guillows with all its plastic parts from the 1960's and Comet's simple build from 1941...scale for both is virtually identical.

I've mentioned this before...I'm amazed at how accurate Comet's designs have proven to be...in comparison to other kit manufacturers of the time.

Comet Spitfire is now completed...stay tuned for details "at six."

Thank you, Gentlemen...it's all a labor of love (n' sometimes hate).

Continuing in the vein of laziness...I've used the same fuselage letters on the Spit as those on the Hurricane...rearranged.  I actually found an extensive list of fuselage code signs used by the RAF during WW2.  Could have used FY...but used that on Comet's larger Spitfire IX...so went with YT...which was used by No.65 Squadron (Spitfires).  More specifically, I was able to discover photos of aircraft F and a bit of history concerning its pilot...Ernest Derek Glaser.

Glaser joined 65 Sqn exactly 3 days prior to the opening salvo of what became known as the Battle of Britain...as an inexperienced 19 year old Pilot Officer.  Not only did he survive, but eventually became a Flight Leader.  In 1943, while 65 Sqn was converting to North American P-51's, Glaser was transferred to the CBI as a Squadron Commander (Spitfires)...to do battle against the Japanese.  Squadron Commander Glaser DFC passed away not long ago at the age of 80.

So that's the story of YT + F (No.65 Squadron)...Supermarine Spitfire Mk 1a, Battle of Britain.  Working on its canopy....
