Wings are now framed up.

I added the additional top ribs and vertical web between the lower and upper frame.  It really helped to firm the wings up  Smiley

I'm not sure to dive into the fuselage or tail feathers next.

We had a beautiful sunset tonight in Oregon.

I think you're going to like your wing construction.  This will build a nice light and strong wing.  Making great progress! Smiley

Thank you Sky for the ideas.

I'm moving along quickly.  I realized I need to make both wings at the same time since I'm improvising and I really need to make both halves at the same time to make them close to the same.

My plan is to add another top spliced rib in between what the photos show.

I kept the V rib layout just because it looks different and will look nice through the tissue  Smiley

With an enlargement to 26" w/s, it might be a good idea to opt for 90 degree ribs from the t/e to l/e with a main spar about 1/3 way back from the l/e for additional strength; in another words, the ribs covering the full chord of the wing.  All ribs & t/e can be made from light weight 1/16" balsa with 1/8" for the spar, l/e.  Insofar as adding riblets or false ribs between the spar & the l/e of the wing, it doesn't look as if it's really necessary at this stage and weight will be come more of a factor than adding strength.  I'm basing this on years of Guillow's 400 series kits in which their single-engine models generally span from 24" to about 28."  None of them featured riblets in their kits.  On my S.E.5, I added riblets or false ribs solely for appearance as the model was built for display.

The number of ribs per wing?  Hmmmm that's a good guess.  Sky9 might have some suggestions here.  I'm guessing (again) perhaps factoring the width of the fuselage in between the two wings, to be around 2," therefore each wing panel should be approximately 12+" in span from the root to tip.  This should equate to about 10-12 ribs per panel.  I might be overstating this.  Hope it helps.

Thanks Sky.

do you think I should keep with the diagonal ribs per the peanut plan? Maybe with right angle riblets spar to LE as needed? of just convert to right angle ribs for the larger build?

Brad,

Signed on and looking forward to seeing your build.   Just enjoy the build and know there's a "lurker" smiling somewhere over your shoulder.

Here is my next build.

The build is based on the Boo Ray Peanut plans that I have enlarged 200%.  I printed tiled plans and have assembled my base set of building plans.  I have lots of extra sheets for parts and 'fiddly bits' (it's not an American term, but I love it!)  That will give me a 26 inch span and 28.75 inch fuselage length.  It will be a 'Big Boy'!! Ha.  I'm keeping it rubber powered and I'm going to have to use up a lot of my nice tissue to cover it, but what do I have it for anyway.

Let the games begin  Smiley
