I haven’t done a lot more on the Semiquaver but in the interests of keeping things ticking over I have done the next best thing.....I took more pictures Smiley.

The things I have done are; adding hard points on the wings for the interplane struts; sheeting and sanding the bottom of the nose and the top of the deck between the nose and the cockpit; the last bit as a seat for the pylon which supports the top wing.
Everything so far weighs a smidge under 7.5g. That doesn’t sound too bad if you say it quickly but when you realise I still have to make interplane struts, nose block and prop and wheels and undercarriage, then it all needs covering and finishing; I don’t think it’s going to be light  Embarrassed.

Hi Tim - Agree with your point about the short grain in the ribs. I tried using the lamination method but the form was the problem so I use two 1/32nd sheets laminated cross grain and sanded to 1/16th, helps a lot with the strength of the ribs and the internal brace of each rib goes a long way toward the overall strength. I usually renew my membership in the "Broken Stringers and Cross Members" club somewhere in the build, don't keep track of my fingers too well.

Thanks for the link Mike. I have used a couple of those methods before. I like the simplicity and speed of Toms method for smaller models, but when ribs get bigger and the amount of “short grain” at the front of the rib gets too much then I prefer the laminated sheet method that Mike Stuart documents on his ffscale site.

Here is where I got to before work got in the way. Upper wing is sanded. The ailerons are separated and ready to be hinged.

Tim - Here's the link to the "how to" and thank you for the good words. I've worked out some of the kinks that come along with this method so let me know if and when you want to give it a try. https://www.stickandtissue.com/forum/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1403712370

The lower wing is now sanded and the upper wing is on the board. A bit more complex as it has separate ailerons.
I have another two days to get as much done as I can and then it’s back to work.

Thanks Mike. How have you done the top rib strips for the wing? They look great.
I have cut a small pile of ribs and the lower wing is framed up on the board.

Tim - Great progress and I'm in with everybody else on the great work especially the cockpit combing.

The Crosby half shell method was a bust and it got binned over the holidays and resumed in the fuselage frame. Got the formers cut and installed and the side stringer installed so all will not fall thru the frame. Wing is well underway and the tail section parts are complete with airfoil sanded in. Should have the wing completed by week end and only the fuselage to do and can start covering and detailing.

Thanks chaps. The cockpit coaming was the second attempt as the first didn’t work as planned. Very fiddly but I find it very satisfying when I get it done right.
Today I made the tail feathers so the plan can come off the board now and be turned over for the wings.

Very nice framing, Tim...especially like the effort you've put in around the cockpit coaming.  That can be a delicate process but certainly goes a long way toward a detailed appearance...that extra effort. Smiley

I have some time off from work over the Christmas and new year so I have been doing a bit more on the Semiquaver.
I had some duties on Christmas Day which took priority. My wife and I were leading the Christmas Day service at our Church, and I was speaking, so I only managed a little work before then; but now I am free to do some modelling for a few days Smiley.

This is where I am up to now. The stringers are done. Rubbber peg anchors installed. Sheeting around the nose and cockpit area are also done. I have made a start on the tail feathers by laminating the curved fin and rudder edge and making some hinges for the rudder and elevators. I hope to do those tomorrow.

Another weekend, a little more progress on the Semiquaver. It now has all the top deck formers. These took a little longer as I didn’t really trust the plan shapes so I re-drew them. It often seems to happen with plans these days that get scanned, copied, copied again then scanned again etc etc. I will check the wings for the same reason.

Was working along on the Crosby when I saw the stringers looking like hills and valleys, the formers in the middle are a full 3/16 inch to narrow so had to add a stringer onto the stringer and will need to sand to shape. Then some of the other stringers started to look a bit wonky and had to shim them before gluing in place. Also, the plan has all the stringers converging to a point at the rear with a lot of bunching up so decided to stop, pick it all up, recycle it and begin again on my fuselage fixture. When I got it off the board surprised how rigid it was so cut off the tail cone and started adding the opposing formers. I know what to watch for so still building.

After studying the plans there are a few deviations from the norm that I'm going to have to figure out when it comes to the nose of the fuselage.  I'm still studying!
